Can I use Groovymame with an Intel HD "card"?
« on: December 14, 2016, 10:44:10 am »
I'm looking to make a Neo Geo only system using a ITX board that has a Celeron J1900 SoC integrated HD GFX card.

IIRC you can use it but number of resolutions was limited but obviously as I only want to use one system in 15khz that should be ok, I suppose the question is, is that possible? Am I remembering correctly and has there been some new developments I'm not aware of?

Groovymame is only for use with ATI/Radeon cards...maybe you could have some luck with soft15khz?

http://www.arcadeinfo.de/showthread.php?8170-International-Overview

It is designed mainly for Nvidia/ATI cards but will allow you to install custom 15khz resolutions for supported drivers...apparently there is experimental support for some Intel drivers. Your mileage will definitely vary. It also looks like you'd need Windows XP from what I'm reading. Soft15khz is far less 'automatic' in picking game resolutions - you have to create/install every resolution for the games/systems you need to play. This might not be a concern for you if you install just the neo-geo resolutions you want.

Have you purchased the board already? It may be worth looking to see if there's a board that would have a Groovymame/crt_emudriver compatible Radeon chipset built into it.

I'm looking at that board as I have it already from another project and it's pretty cheap for what it is, it can be pretty compact once you add a small SSD etc and should boot rather quick. I know there are older ITX boards with Radeon chipsets built in though.

Was wanting to avoid soft15khz by just due to the fact it can't support custom refresh rates.

GroovyMAME can't interface with Intel cards, it can only use the modes created by other means.
