Looking through Progetto Snaps, on their DATFILES page they have DATs for older versions of MAME. The text says: "Dats below are collected, always ClrMame, from version 0.01 to latest available, are divided into packets containing all the dats (thus the intermediate versions)."

I downloaded the one I need, .149. It contains two files: "MAME 149.dat" and "MAME 149u1.dat".

I was expecting to find several DATs needed by MAME -- not sure what to do with this single DAT file.

1. How is this file used in MAME configs? Where does it need to go, and does MAME know to look for it?

2. I have mame64.exe, .149.  What is the difference between the two DATs, one being "u1"?

Progetto Snaps is pretty clear with explaining most of their pages & files. I'm hoping someone has some experience with this one.

Thanks!
