  • I want to build my own bartop arcade!
I'm having trouble generating an interlaced 640x480 mode with Vmmaker. I am using a tri-sync monitor and have tried the arcade 15_24_31 preset. I am using windows 7, CRT_emudriver 12.6 and using the new 2.0 beta tools. My video card is an AMD HD 4890.

When I was using windows xp and vmmaker 1.4, I recall having an interlaced desktop mode. It would be listed as 640x481. Even if I put 640x480 @ 60, or 640x480 @ 30 in my user modes.ini I still get the same result. Only one 640x480 at 31khz.

Further, that 31khz mode is stretched where the left and right side of the images are well beyond the viewable screen area. To fix this, is it just a matter of adjusting the front and back porches on the preset?

You can't create 640x480i because you're using a tri-sync preset. VMMaker tries to offer you the best possible 640x480 mode so it calculates it in the 31 kHz range. You'll need to create that mode individually by using a 15 kHz-only preset, then add it manually to your mode list (the one created with the tri-sync preset), by means of the "Import modes" option.
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Thanks Calamity. I think I've done what I needed to do, and I also followed your advice from this post: https://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=150447.0

My new question is can I not have 640x480 in both 31Khz and 15khz. It seems like the import modes from file is only allowing me to import one or the other. I tried first changing the 15khz mode to 640x481 (because it said I couldn't have duplicate labels for the modes) and it only kept the 31khz mode, then I tried changing the 31khz mode to 640x481, and it only kept the 15khz mode. Is there a way to keep both?

So I take it I can't have 640x480 both in my resolution list both in interlaced and progressive? What if I used 640x480 interlaced for my desktop, but had a super resolution of 2560x480 for games like prop cycle? Would that work?
