Problem with 320x240 60hz
« on: November 21, 2016, 06:04:19 am »
Hello Guys
Anyone have noticied, a strange behavior on 0.178b, iīm was using 0.169b with Rastan that is 320x240 @60, but on newer version 0.178b, swithres, changes the horiz freq with 59.908, any hint what could causing this.
On 0169b it equal the original 320x240 @60 no changes.
Any clue ?

Thanks
Marcos

Probably You are switched from HD4xxx to HD5xxx or newer. This issue was already explained by Calamity - http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,149585.0.html

Hello haynor666
Thanks a lot for your answer!
In fact itīs the same equipament only put another version of GM, i keep the 0.169b the way it is, because itīs perfect! And iīm testing the 0.178b now, i maybe suspect what could be, because iīm on the office now, i donīt remember, but i think the presets are different, i saw the Calamityīs explanation on your thread, i think coulb be that.
But for me if itīs showing 60 or 59,98 for refresh rate, itīs not a big deal the only think matters its the smoothess, and a game like Rastan, that iīm testing on even with the decresse apparentyly it is smooth.
So will let you know !
Thanks a lot bro !

Hello haynor666
I tested, and infact the behavior persist, even with the same monitor preset, the 0.169b show 60.000 on Rastan, and on the 0.178b shows, on the Tab information screen, 59.908, donīt know if these impact on the emulation, visualy by the eye shows no diference.
Another strange thing i realize on 0.178b and 0.179b too, a strange behavior when you mess around with resolution, example:
I usualy plays on horizontal monitor, but i like to turn 90 dree the game like xevious for example just to see how it looks with the Vertical original portrait aspec, on 0.169b no problem it change normaly, but on recent version 0.178b and 0.179b when rotation the screen, it disappear looks like the emulation speed up, i could see and d3d error like it could not render or something like that, was too kick.
Any hint what could cause that.
By the way, using winXP 32 + Ati 4350 + j-Pac + 20" Tube Philips A51, with 15hz Brazilian monitor called Eletrocyan.
Thanks Marcos

The ACTUAL screen refresh rate of a CRT signal is 59.9hz. I would imagine some games display at this exact frequency, while others round up to 60 at the sacrifice of a very slight amount of screen real estate.

fun fact(s)

m.andrade1 I've seen the same problem. Don't mess 169 config files with groovymame 178,179. Start configuration from 0.

Hello haynor666
I tried from scratch but no lucky. An example is zookeeper, on 0.169 works perfect, but on 0.178 and 0.179 it minimize and the emulation speedup a lot and no image appears, have to force it to run with another resolution like 320x240 for example, any clue?
Do you or someone having the same issue?
Thanks a lot
Marcos

Hello haynor666
Just an update, i tried the last 0180b 32bit compiled from our buddy keropi, and bam ! Solve the problem with zookepper and another games that change resolutions.
Another cool thing the rotate on the fly, is back to normal, now i can see games like xevios and ikari warriors on the original aspect them come back to horizontal again!
Thanks to Calamity ! And thanks for Keropi to compile the 32bit version!
