Mameuifx controls disappearing during gameplay

I'm pretty sure it's because drunk people button smashing,
But last night controls kept disappearing in gameplay.
Like say nba jam, game would continue but your controls would be gone.

Any ideas?  Pretty sure it's from thrashing.  Jesus I'll never understand why people yank and thrash in controls.  Outlawed from now on.

Mameuifx 175 Windows 7.

Forgot to add using an ultimate I/o for encoder.
When it did this we would have to quit mame, go back to hyperspin and relaunch.
