Tweaks and power limits of the ArcadeVga5000
« on: November 02, 2016, 01:06:26 pm »
Hi guys

I've got a i5 8gig ran running an arcadevga5000

Now I've just got the card working and noticing it struggles with Dolphin.  I'm looking for some input to :

1.  Dial in the vga settings on the PC (windows7), to really dial in the settings to get the most out of it.

2.  Is it possible to run GameCube on this thing? I have no problem on my other cab (Radeon 6670/core duo/7gigram).... This new PC is faster but I'm thinking the Vga5000 isn't dialed in enough so I'm looking for help.  I have only installed the basic drivers, nothing else 3rd party for the card if there is anything else.

dude.... the arcadeVGA 5000 is a card made for connecting to an arcade monitor using custom refresh rates not a "gaming" card. there is nothing to "dial in" it's a card designed for a specific purpose....a purpose of which you aren't using it for. the arcadeVGA is a rebranded Radion HD5450 card.

if you want to run dolphin, you are gonna want at least a 750ti or higher.

You may have better success/speed (at the loss of accuracy) with an older Dolphin version and/or switching to a Direct3D9 renderer. I'm pretty sure DX9 was taken out of the more recent versions for advancements in DX11 cards (which will be great for cards that can really push that) but it could possibly be running inefficiently for you, just a theory.

I highly doubt it. the 5450 scores a 3dmark score of 340

to put it in perspective, the 750ti scores 5610

to further, a brand new GTX1080 scores a 30160

I have Radeon 4350 together with G3258 clocked at 4,2 GHz and older Dreamcast/Naomi emulators like Makaron and nullDC works great. Of course compatibility is not so great as on DEmul. Other option would be reincast (untested by me).

the HD4350 scores 3dmark of 799

that's still almost 3x the card the arcadeVGA running the 5450 is.

the arcadeVGA was a card with a custom bios that allowed 15/25/31k resolution options for direct connection to standard/medium and high resolution arcade monitors without using a scaler or other processing. it's not made for rendering games. at al.

mame is a highly CPU intensive emulator, benefiting from high single core speeds. a fast video card is not particularly required (especially in older versions.... newer versions take more advantage of GPU capabilities.)

dolphin is a very highly GPU intensive emulator, benefiting from high bandwidth capable video cards.

the reason I mention the 750ti is because it's a very inexpensive card available with DDR5 memory which makes it very capable.

I agree it's slow but it's also enough for some older emulators that rely on GPU and most of Taito Type X/X2 games.

the taito type X and X2 are a windows xp embedded and/or linux system. it's going to be much much easier to "emulate" when there is nothing to "emulate"... it's already x86 code.

Yeah, but still those are 3D games that needs GPU power. In this case for some Taito Type X2 games 4350 seems to be not enough, probably 5450 will be also not enough.
