forcing TV momentary switch to ON.
« on: October 24, 2016, 07:05:29 pm »
I would like to do the whole power up routine using a smart strip which will power on the monitor when the master power is engaged.  My searching is failing.  I have a cheapo TV with a momentary switch.  I've tried just holding the button down as the system boots up, but that doesn't work, so I won't be able to simply force the button in mechanically.  What are the basics for getting a TV to come on when power is present in the cord?  I haven't taken a crack at opening it up yet so I don't have any pics of the electronic guts.

If you can get to the power button contacts, you can use a pushbutton or a relay.
take a look at this link, these guys used a 8.00 relay....

If you can't access the power button connections, use an IR transmitter like one of these . . .
USB Infrared Toy
Here is a post from back in March where a member got the USB Infrared Toy working on that exact brand of TV:

. . . or one of these.

Thanks Scott.  This gives me some options.  Maybe the relay could be timed to bypass the TV's splash screen and the POST test text too.
