Tabletop Arcade: What size do you recommend? Need a 4:3 LCD
« on: September 04, 2016, 11:33:18 am »
Wanting to do a tabletop arcade with an LCD. What size monitor would you recommend and also would prefer a 4:3 monitor which is getting hard to find.
Should I use the kind that people use for cars or one of those that hang from the underside of kitchen cabinets? Having issues finding an actual PC 4:3 monitor.

If your talking tabletop as in a dinky colleco type game this 8" screen could work as its 4:3 (i have one ready for a future project) hdmi input

Sorry I should clarify. I didn't mean "Coleco" small but more like the bar top style size. I want to utilize actual arcade control parts so perhaps around 12 inch screen? I'll also be using full size PC parts so I have to make room for those in some way. Was considering putting the motherboard behind the monitor or perhaps behind the Marquee.

12" screen on a bartop?

That might work OK with a 1-player control panel, but probably not so well with a 2-player panel.

Another important consideration:  Do you plan to use a computer, RasPi, or X-in-1 board and how big a box do you need for the system's guts?

Sounds like bigger than what you want... but maybe take a look at my shop:

I plan to do 1 player only. I'll be using Windows with GameX because I'm already familiar with it. I have all the hardware including servo 4way/8way joystick, tons of Happ buttons...etc. The PC guts consists of an ITX mobo with an Core i7 CPU and an SFX power supply....so it's not real big of course however the only graphics card I have available is a full sized GTX 680 triple slot cooler. So either it's that or I use the IGPU. I do have an old GTX 210 but it kind of sucks however I'm pretty sure most MAME games and emulators don't use much of the GPU but I do have a couple modern PC games I want to use like Outrun 2006. Basically I want the most power to have good emulator performance. I even have some good HLSL settings that do a great job of giving that CRT look.

Although I built my last arcade cab, I'm not sure I want to mess with it again, I would prefer a prefab cabinet but most are 2 player and pretty expensive. I'm not apposed to suggestions cause I'm super picky about perfection and I just don't have the tools to cut perfectly straight edges, curvatures. I'm out of sandpaper and I can't paint worth a crap.
So any prefab cabinet suggestions are welcome.

Posted before I saw yours. These kits do look great. They do seem kind of big but I'll definitely take a good look and think about it. Where you mention monitor size, are these for typical LCD's or CRT's?
Also are these shipped as a DIY flat pack?

I have used 15 inch LCD screens in these bar top kits and they work great.
