WGM2792 Monitor Resistor Burn Off On Neck Board *Need Help*
« on: September 01, 2016, 11:41:59 pm »
Hello all. I just Bought a Sega Sports Jam Arcade Machine with the intent on fixing it, and maybe later converting to a mame machine. I have done many in the past :) The sound is heard, but the monitor does not turn on @ boot. When i took the back monitor cover off the machine I found a white ceramic resistor that was just laying in the metal monitor cover. After inspecting a minute I noticed r242 was missing from the neck board, and a black spot was left behind. My question is: should I just order a replacement resistor, or should I further investigate to find out what caused the resistor to fail (and/or fall off). I am just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction of what to check for? The monitor is a WGM2792-U0TS29K, the neck board is a p858. Resistor is 10w 1.5k . I will attach pic of neck board...   Thank you so much

One more thing, someone suggested it fell off because of a cold solder joint. I tested the resistor (pic attached), its reading 1.333K Ohms. Is it within tolerance to reuse?

I re-Installed the resistor, still no monitor glow. I am getting a little bit of smoke, like steaming off. It looks to me like its coming from the heatsink I circled in red (attached pic). Any suggestions?

I checked the transistor that sits on the heatsink, it appears to be ok. Any suggestions on what I should check from here? I would so appreciate it

Could IC201(video amp)cause the tube to not even glow if it failed?

tube glow >neck glow< at the neck orange
is a function of the flyback
if u are referring to the face of the tube not lighting up but the neck is glowing ? then that's a good spot to start

ok, yeah the neck is not glowing in my case. Is it a correct assumption that since I had a resistor fall off on the neck board that it is most certainly my source of trouble?

the neck not glowing is a function of the flyback
so what u need to do first
is find out why u do not have sweep >high voltage<
and work from there.
on that chassic u luck out wellsgarnder has a d/l page of pdf's where that model is covered
chk the smps output also look into a cap kit for it .

Believe it or not, the resistor r242 I soldered back in fell out again. It was soldered in well. Something is making the solder joints on r242 heat up. Anyone have a clue?

Thanks, I will take a look at it. One thing I found is a bad transistor q201. I am not sure how this might be effecting r242 though.

edit: so my monitor is basically a D9200 as I thought. (wgm2792-u0ts29k) Wells Gardner monitor, 27" CGA/EGA/VGA Universal TV grade 29K.

Can I be pretty sure this is a neck board issue do you think Ed? I am thinking of sending it of to someone on ebay for repair. It would certainly be nice to just sip the neck board

well as u know by now
from not only this form but klov
that they were and are a pita to repair
and most ppl do not want to do them
I on the other hand have done several and find them easy if u just follow the rules
if I can up-load a paper on the trouble shooting guide ? I will.

un-les u never caught the drift ?
d9200 is a digital tri-state for the u5000

your neck board is the very least of your problems right now..

u must in an a-sending order chk a few things.

a=is the switching power supply working yes/no ?
if no why ?
b=if yes then my chk points >listed as tp101-tp-xx voltages there ?
if yes ?
then we move to sweep.
u see these chk points need to pass the mustard first

ed

ps
I hope u got the e-mail?

as I have tried to point out
u5000 and d9000 are kissing cousins
there theory of operation is the same.
using the schematic I posted to u earlier along with the trouble shooting guide of the u5000 should get u right into the infield of the repair
that u are under taking.
there is very little data on the d9200 series
