strange ultrastik map changing behavior?
« on: June 25, 2016, 12:21:20 am »
Hello.  I'm working on setting up a new control panel that consists of 2 ultrastiks hooked up to an ipac ultimate io (output mode) AND usb so I can change maps.  I also have LED buttons controlled via ledblinky, using hyperspin and rocketlauncher as a frontend.  I'm running into an issue when I enable map changing either through ledblinky or rocketlauncher.  when the map is changed, it causes a "phantom" up/left key press, causing the focus to be brought back to hyperspin and causing ledblinky to drop the settings for the selected game and reset to the frontend LED settings (this all happens before mame launches).  I've also seen the phantom keys get pressed using ultramap.

Is this normal behavior during a map change, and if so, is there a workaround to ensure ledblinky keeps the settings for the selected game?

I have had a slightly similar issue with my 2 U360's and Ipac4.  For me, when I had joysticks or the trackball enabled in Hyperspin I would get random button presses when selecting a game etc in HS.  I'm fairly sure that the computer was attaching some of the buttons as game pad buttons to the joystick/trackball on top of their normal keycode function.  For example, the P1B1 button was set to the 'G' key yet also set to button 1 on a game pad and did both functions.  So far mine seems to be fixed by simply turning off joysticks and trackball in HyperLaunch.  I'm not sure if something similar would help you or not, but it's worth a shot.

Thanks, i checked the joystick settings and they are disabled. Started running into another problem last night - hyperspin would stop responding after map switches at random times. As soon as i disabled ultramap support in rocketlauncher everything was fine. Guess ill reach out to ultimarc, dont want to stop using the joysticks biggest feature   :embarassed:

Are you, by chance, using LEDBlinky to control the Ultrastiks?  I recommend looking into it as it makes things very nice for properly auto-switching the joysticks to the proper game.

I tried LEDBlinky and Rocketlauncher. Both had the same issue. I decided to try running the sticks in input mode, bypassing the ipac for directional controls. Now that i got joy2key working with hyperspin everythings working great! Map changes dont cause false keypresses. It seems those phantom keystrokes/directional moves only come through the ipac, not via usb.

Its probably better in the long run with this setup anyway (crossing my fingers) since Im not limiting the 360s to directional keys. I'll wire the buttons to the stick so i can use it as a gamepad wherever it makes sense and use joy2key everywhere else.
