Alternative t molding, mdf and sticking.

I bought some trim similar to this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6m-Black-Edge-Guard-12mm-Self-Adhesive-Moulding-Strip-Decorative-Protective-Trim-/151783741623?hash=item23570418b7:g:QlEAAOSwMmBV0jmy but in chrome and having all kind of problems getting it to stick uniformly on the edge.

Are there any tips for applying self adhesive strips to mdf edges, short of nailing them on?

Maybe try brushing a layer of thinned wood glue onto the edged so the adhesive has something smoother to stick to?

^^Agreed.
Even with T-molding I needed a bit of glue just to keep it all uniform.
But seriously, why not T-molding? I get you already bought it, find another use for it.
