MAME Artwork
« on: January 16, 2004, 08:05:48 am »
I'm sure I'm doing something basically wrong - but can't work out what - I can't get MAME to run Artwork. All the files are zipped in the relevant file, and my config settings are as I think they should be - but nothing is showing up - MAME is OK otherwise. Could someone just walk me through what needs to be set in order for the Artwork to appear?

I'm running MAME through MAMEWAH.

I would suggest going into MAMEwah, and go to Emulator settings, look for the Artwork_Image_#1 and type in the path there.  Mamewah will clear out the path if it is incorrect auto-magically so you know if you have a path problem.

Could you just clarify if you are trying to get the artwork to display in MAME or MAMEWAH?

I thought you meant MAME, in which case open your mame.ini file and look at the bottom for these options:

### Mame CORE misc options ###
artwork                 1
use_backdrops           1
use_overlays            1
use_bezels              1
artwork_crop            0
artwork_resolution      0

If you mean MAMEWAH, Metimbo is right, but images must be unzipped also :)

Minwah,
Sorry, yes I was talking about artwork in MAME (The ingame backdrops etc).
Thanks for the paste of MAME ini file - thats exactly what my file looks like. Artwork is zipped in the mame\artwork file, yet it isn't showing up when I launch a game.
Not sure if its related, but all my roms are located outside of MAME in c:\Allroms (Obviously, I direct MAMEWAH to that file).
I'm stumped!

I am just using mame32 and i can't get crap to load as far as artwork bezels.
I also did a search under my mame folder and i dont even see a MAME.INI file listed. So whats up with that? lol Like i said, im using MAME32, so im not sure what i am supposed to be seeing or doing here.

MAME32 is a different kettle of fish - all you need to do is select "Options" (from the top menu bar) then "default game options" then under the "miscellaneous" tab check the box that says "use additional artwork".

Blimely - aeroflott answering questions - whatever next?! ;)

I'm having the exact same problem. Mame32.ini is pointing at my artwork and in Mame32 under Misc. tab, artwork is checked. However, nothing shows up.

Hmm, maybe make sure you are using the correct files?  The current art files can be found over at Mr.Do's Artwork page.  Much higher quality than the old files, too.
