Has anyone got Show CP patch on mame working?

I am running a win7 64bit box, mala174, mame172 setup..
I have used CPWizard to batch export my control panel png files and put some in the mame\artwork folder for testing.
I used MC64 to recompile mame64 172 with the ShowCP155.diff patch (which I had to modify changing extensions from .c to .cpp to apply without errors)
I also applied the hi172 patch and no nags
I cant seem to get the Show PC to show up in any rebuilds when pressing the tab key, the other patches appear to work...
I have tried mame171 and 172 but the resulting mame64.exe files dont display Show CP or the png files.
Does support for this stop in an earlier release?
Has anyone got this working and could assist a little?  I have been trying to get this to work for over a week
I just want to be able to press pause and pauser game while showing the controls.png file then press pause hide png file and unpausing...

I have discovered it is to do with file version of the patch ShowCP155...trying to work out what I am looking at, as I gather it is to do with file location and object/element naming being changed...not really sure what I am doing so any help appreciated
