The IKEA top bar arcade machine
« on: April 15, 2016, 09:16:40 am »
Hi,

I new where, but i used this forum in the past to get information about how to build a arcade machine.

I be working on a top bar arcade machine, is my first build and overall is pretty simple. There is no fancy vinyl, the main look of the arcade is to be retro and discrete. done this way to cut in the cost of the vinyl and not to be to much aggressive to the eyes.

This is my first build and i make some mistakes during the build, but overall the result was not so bad.
The arcade is still not finished, is missing 4 red button in the front panel, need to hide some of the cuts made in the wood and replace the 2 top speakers protectors (there are not the best looking).

I have used was base a top bar design i found in the internet and modified to accommodate the hardware i have and put at my taste.
2 payer with 6 buttons each and 2 for pinball.
The pc is an G3258 overcloked, 8gb ram, graphic card is a gt730 1gb ddr5, disc of 1.5Tb with hyperspin. The screen is from a 23'' led tv full hd. It was a old but powerful sound system 2.1, sub-woofer at the bottom and 2 speaker at the top.

Overall the build was pretty easy and now is finished there are some option i made that was not the best. for example i used cheap mdf wood instead of read wood. the 2 top speaker are ugly like hell, i will use a 3d printer to build 2 black ones.

Wow, extremely clean and handsome design.  I personally would add a marquee of some sort, but I will admit that the wood finish looks sharp against the black t-molding.  Very ikea, in a good way :)

Ya know... I REALLY REALLY like it. No fancy side art, just a stained wood look, and that black T-molding looks very very nice with it. I say forget about drilling more holes for admin buttons, just use the "SHIFT" function of the new iPac's and your set.

Nice work.

His second post and he's getting snarky, I think he'll fit right in.  Welcome aboard and good start on the collection!

Hi,

loved the name, IKEA arcade.

The hardware of the arcade is 99% complete, i have added 4 missing red buttons, hide some of the wood cuts on the back and bottom and replace the top speaker grille with some printed ones (used a 3d printer). Is only missing the micro-switch of the second player and configure correctly the controls in hyperspin.

Found yesterday my second cat chilling on the couch and playing some xbox, is waiting for the second player buttons are finished...

To truly be an IKEA arcade, you need to install 1 of the shelves upside down.
