The Titan XL Build - A Gameroom Designs Original!
« on: March 29, 2016, 10:10:07 pm »
I've been working hard on completing a full-size arcade system for a customer, and have finally got it done!

Running a MaLa front-end and MAME, I'll be delivering this bad boy later this week. I only hope I have the machine long enough to make a nice video of everything running.

Thanks very much! I worked with a friend of mine who is a graphic artist, and asked him to create something that looked both clean, and had a retro feel similar to the Taito cabinets of old. His original design had background colours right out of the old Commodore 64 - beige - and I loved it immediately. His colour palette was a bit different as well, with darker, more muted colours. I modified the design a bit, making it white, and grabbing the colour palette directly from the Pole Position marquee - blue, red and gold.

I'm glad it turned out as nice as it did!

I can always count on you to be the voice of reason. ;) (Seriously though, the customer wanted buttons rather than a coin door.)

I agree with the homie on this one, it needs something in the front that's a huge area.

Love the artwork though, and it is clean  :applaud:

I agree that it could benefit from a coin door but otherwise the artwork screams classic Atari to me and the cabinet lines are really good. Nice job.   :applaud:

I really like the color scheme and the simplicity of it, but ... the marquee does not fit. I think it would have looked better if it had been done like the rest of the cab.

+1 for sure, the other looks to Dragon's Lairish.  I just looked closer at the marquee, you did clean lines, and then did a collage/montage blasphemic rendition on the marquue... :whap

Finish what you started sir.

Coin door and the marquee change would probably get this nominated for one of those forum award thingys.

I have to disagree here. My inspiration for the art was the Taito cabinets of old, and they were really based on the clean line look, while having a marquee which matched with the game being played. That being said, I can definitely appreciate your opinions on the marquee not being your cup of tea.

Coin door and the marquee change would probably get this nominated for one of those forum award thingys.

I appreciate that! I did want to add the coin door, but my customer didn't go for it. If this was for my own personal use, there's nothing that beats the experience of putting coins/credits into a machine and hearing them drop into the box...

wow, i remember that..  i dunno how the rep of the aimtrack gun has held up over the years..  i will say i got so many hours of enjoyment out of mine..  id imagine now a days you probably do not even have to assemble them your self, or something better has come along.. anyhow, i still used  the aimtrack gun and never had single problem.  cant say much for the cheap joysticks tho... i had to replace them twice. laughs.  anyhow,

thanks for the warm welcome freinds..

and once again nice cab it screams 80s :)  im sure your customer will be quite happy..

Aimtrak is still the best solution available, though he does sell complete kits now with shells and recoil setups.

Right but, your marquee isn't displaying the game being played its displaying a mash-up of games, and you cut off alot of the names.  What im getting at is the rest of that cab looks well thought out and designed, the marquee looks like it was thrown together kinda.  I'm not seeing RICK quality that RICK is capable of in that marquee.

To get what you were trying to portray would involve the dynamic marquee in BLIP, then it would of made more sense.

You build is clean with a don't do too much touch, the marquee is saying "I did too much".

This just honest feedback from my eye, I may be wrong either way great job on the cab bro.

Wow. Man, I totally get what you're saying. Thank you. (I'm not being sarcastic.) I do have a confession - I made the marquee art myself, and the rest of the cab was the work of a very talented friend who is a designer.

I'll work on improving it for the future.

No worries man, go ask his opinion, and let him finish out the job. I'm sure he will continue his flow in that marquee.
