ArcadeVGA & T.V. Out?
« on: January 15, 2004, 07:57:51 am »
Does anybody know if the TV Out on the ArcadeVGA works?

I ask because my arcade cabinet is in the same room as my couch/tv set and it would be nice to be able to double my arcade cabinet as a media player (if it's just that easy).

Perhaps a dumb question, but does the ArcadeVGA serve as a "regular" video card?  In other words, if I am looking to upgrade the videocard in my PC, of which I play MAME on currently, would this work?  I do plan to upgrade to an actual cabinet eventually with an Arcade monitor (D9200) and use my current PC in that cabinet, so getting the ArcadeVGA now would be beneficial, but could I use it for just generic video card stuff in a regular PC setup in the meantime.  Does it work in connecting to a regular PC monitor and not an arcade monitor? Anyone have experience with this?
Thanks.

No, The ArcadeVGA card must have either a 15Khz monitor or a multi-frequency such as the D9200 connected. You can't use it for just a PC monitor, but you can add a PC monitor as well as the arcade monitor, with some restrictions.
The TV-Out is usable but there is no point in using an ArcadeVGA card for just TV-out as iit's the same as any other card in that respect.

That's odd, I have used my ArcadeVGA with only my PC monitor (no arcade monitor connected).  Actually this is how I have used the card the most, as I don't have a permament arcade monitor setup.

Things to note are that you cannot see the POST screen on the PC monitor, and performance seems to be quite poor (the card clearly isn't meant for this).  So to answer your question arcadecab, I would wait until you have the cabinet/D9200, then get the AVGA :)
