Dragons Lair Enhanced to work with Hyperspin? - RESOLVED
« on: March 18, 2016, 06:34:25 pm »
Dragons Lair skips scenes when running it with Hyperspin. I have the Dragons Lair Enhanced zip files, which work great when running the game with Daphne Loader...but when I run the game in Hyperspin it skips around as if Hyperspin is not using the DLE zips.

Where am i supposed to put the DLE zip files (or its contents), or what exactly should I do in order for Hyperspin to run the enhanced versions? Totally clueless and Ive searched around with no luck finding a solid answer.

Thanks!

I figured it out, but WOW  :dizzy: its really retarded and a lot of steps to get it set up initially..unless theres a shorter way than what I figured out.

I'll try to post the steps when I get time later so that anyone who has the same issue in the future can refer to this.

I just came across Dragon's Lair Enhanced a couple of weeks ago.  I have DL on DVD and Blu-ray, so I'd be interested in your findings.

Cool, so Im not sure about how it works with DVD, but maybe somehow you can apply this info to your set up. I paid for all my Daphne roms from a site that delivered in digital form.

This is a work in progress and I havent tested this 100% throughout the entire game, but so far it seems to be a promising solution for running the dle ZIP ROMs with Hyperspin. I need to find the dle version that is best for not skipping scenes, and try the following instructions with that version. Again, Im new to all of this so maybe theres an easier or more appropriate way of doing it. If anyone knows a better way, by all means share it with us!

Of course before you do any of this you have to set up your Hyperspin and RocketLauncherUI etc to get ANY game working with it. All kinds of vids on that. This guys vid helped me get Daphne working correctly with Hyperspin You may or may not want to skip the first 20+ minutes of it, depending on your set up. Get that done and then continue with the following:

1. My Daphne emulator is installed on C drive with a "roms" folder inside the "Daphne" folder. Download your Dragons Lair Enhanced file http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/tech/enhancements/dle21.asp I placed my dle ZIP file in the roms folder within the Daphne folder.

2. Then I edited 2 daphne.xml files with Notepad++ (one xml located in Hyperspin>Databases>Daphne folder...and the other located in RocketLauncher>RocketLauncherUI>Databases>Daphne folder) and added these lines to the bottom of the list (paste the following just BEFORE "</menu>" at the bottom of the XML file)
   "   </game>
      <game name="dle20" index="true" image="a">
      <description>Dragons Lair Enhanced</description>
      <cloneof></cloneof>
      <crc></crc>
      <manufacturer>Cinematronics</manufacturer>
      <year>1983</year>
      <genre>Adventure</genre>
      <rating>AAMA - Green (Suitable For All Ages)</rating>
      <enabled>Yes</enabled>
   </game>"
(Remove the "s of course ..And you can name the "Dragons Lair Enhanced" text to whatever you want. If the dle file you downloaded isnt titled dle20 then change that in this list to coincide with your downlaoded file name)

3. Do that in both xml files. Go to Daphne>framefiles folder. Make a copy of "lair.txt" and rename it to "dle20.txt" (NOTE: this dle txt file needs to be named to the same exact title that your dle zip file is) (dle zip file is located in your Daphne>roms folder. In my case I was using the dle20.zip) Keep the new dle text file that you just created in your framefiles folder.
Then go into RocketLauncherUI, click on Daphne on the left panel list, click the large tab "Games", click the blue play button (under "system audit"). "Dle20" (or whatever yours is called) should be listed in green. Highlight it and click the rocket launcher icon (underneath the "System Audit" and "Full Audit" tabs). Wait a few seconds and the game should launch from RocketLauncherUI with no issues if done correctly.

4. You can now go into Hyperspin and your Dragons Lair Enhanced Version should be on the wheel list. Of course it wont have any cool art or text to coincide with it yet so youll have to set that up as well...but thats a whole different ordeal. And I just realized that the dle20 version doesnt skip the opening bridge sequence, as was was the case without an enhanced version, but now its skipping around once Im in the castle. Time to try another Enhanced ROM version I guess...I read somewhere that theres a specific version thats the best for not skipping around. Cant remember which one it is.

Oh, and I guess you should backup & delete the "lair.rom" and "lair.txt" files from your Daphne roms and framefile folders? Or at least remove them from your Hyperspin list (a whole different topic) so you dont end up playing the UNenhanced version by accident.

I THINK thats everything... I need to go over it again to try one of the other enhanced versions, so if I run into anything that I missed then I'll come back and list it here.

LATEST UPDATE: I hope someone can prove me wrong on this but Ive come to the crappy conclusion that there are NO versions of Daphne Dragons Lair 1 that will play the scenes in logical order once you get inside the castle. I think it sucks that when you die it shuffles you on to another room, and so on and so on, until youre basically playing a mess of random rooms with no chance to immediately try to replay the room you just died on. Apparently later on in the game it will bring you back to the rooms you previously failed in for another shot at them, but its not an immediate thing. There is something called a "HOME" version that will play the sequences in order and let you keep trying the same room until you get it right but to my understanding that doesnt have anything to do with Daphne. Sucks  :dunno
