Maximus Arcade and PSX Disc Swapping
« on: March 14, 2016, 03:19:17 pm »
Please forgive me if this info has been posted somewhere else and I have just missed it.  I'm using Maximus Arcade for my frontend but i would presume this would work with any other frontend. One of the systems I'm setting up is Sony Playstation (PSX) and I'm a big Final Fantasy Fan so wanted to use multi disc games in my cab and i have got it working. First I downloaded Mednafen emulator and extracted it to my Emulators folder.
http://mednafen.fobby.net/
I then downloaded Mednaffe which is a GUI for Medanafen as it is a command line emulator and this makes it easier to configure. Add PSX bios's into the firmware folder.
I have my disc rips in separate folders for each game now for each disc of the game you need to create a cue sheet in notepad containing this:

FILE "Nameoffile.bin" BINARY
  TRACK 01 MODE2/2352
    INDEX 01 00:00:00

Just replace the the nameoffile.bin with you're file name and it can be a ISO or Bin file. And then save it as Nameofgame disk1.cue. Do this for each disc and save in game folder. Once you have done that in notepad enter this:

Nameofgame Disk 1.cue
Nameofgame Disk 2.cue

Now name this file as nameofgame.m3u. Now go to Maximus preferences set the PSX exe as the Mednafen.exe. Set you're ROM folder and delete the file types and just put .m3u and as you are naming the .m3u files you can name any snaps to suit. Now run Maximus go to playstation select your'e game. When you get to the swap disc point press F8 to open tray F6 to cycle through the discs to the one you want then F8 to close and then press what ever the game asks. Esc will work as normal and take you back to the Maximus menu. As Mednafen is command line you can add agurments to Maximus for various things as well.

At the minute I'm just tweaking my software and building my cabinet but i would presume you can assign the F6 and F8 to whatever buttons on your cabinet you want. Sorry its a bit long winded but i hope it is of help.  :)
