ROMLister does not see CHD only sets
« on: March 14, 2016, 09:29:34 am »
Long time ago I discovered issue with ROMLister. Program does not see/put on list games that that are listed as CHDs only for example Taito GN games. I have to add those manually to list which is quite annoying. Is there any work around besides copying fake zips?

This is actually not only for ROMLister but also for many frontends like F.E.E.L or MAMEWAH.

I can probably fix this, but I'm not quite sure what the problem you're seeing is yet to know where look.
Are the games not showing up when you generate a list based on joystick/monitor/buttons etc?
Or are you trying to use the rom scan feature in the settings/tools window?

Yes, with scan feature. All frontends that I tried had the same issue - scanned are only zip files without additional scanning for chds.

ok, give this a shot:
http://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister/RomLister313.zip

The rom scan tool now looks for zip, 7z, and chd file extensions.

Doesn't work for me even if I put chd xiistag.chd in main directory. It does not work if file is inside xiistag directory as well ie. xiistag\xiistag.chd

Yep, I'm dumb.  :embarassed:
Try again.  I updated the same zip file linked to above.

Sorry about that.  This time I actually tested it.

BTW: the chd files should be in the main folder, not like xiistag\xiistag.chd

I can make it recursively look for zip/7z/chd's but that may get you into trouble if you ever pointed it into a huge folder of roms.  let me know if you need that.

Default placing scheme is set name/chd file.chd. Chds should be placed in it's own directories because some sets have more than 1 chd file for example bm37th not too mention that in many cases chd name does not match set name like with sfiii and it's chd cap-sf3-3.chd
Anyway so far we have only 614 directories for chds and more than 32000 files in roms directory but that's for full set. Personally I only have 24 directories with chds and 1951 zip files. Scan it's really fast :)

Rom scan works this time but only if I put chd in main rom directory.

Today I've found in mame documentation how chds should be put:

Quote
Where do I place the .CHD (compressed hard disk image) files?

Put them into a subdirectory of your "roms" directory with the name of the game the CHD is for. In addition the CHD, you also need the corresponding ROMs for the game to work. To demonstrate:

mame.exe
roms\
   area51.zip
   area51\
      area51.chd
Note that the CHD name does not always directly correspond to the game now. For example, the CHD for Beatmania is named 753jaa11.chd. It would go in a directory called "bm1stmix".

BTW. I see that new version is not available officially at https://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister/
