Groovy Arcade and Nvidia cards... is it possible?
« on: March 05, 2016, 02:40:58 pm »
Hi there,

I'm trying to make a Donkey Kong 2/3 replica, and I'm trying to use Groovy Arcade Linux for the first time. It's an old ECS AMD motherboard, the monitor is a Commodore 1085S. I have a bunch a unused Nvidia cards, but unfortunately, none of them work. Here are the results:
- Unknown MEDION card with DVI, VGA and HDMI ports: the top of the picture is displaying at the bottom, but it's stable. I get a black screen when I launch the frontend, though.
- Geforce 7800 GT, picture is out of sync.
- Geforce 210, same a above.
- Onboard SIS chip: black screen.

As was about to give up when I decided to take the ATI X800 from my existing cab. And it works perfectly! So here is my question, are Nvidia cards supposed to be supported I couldn't find any clear information on the subject...

Thanks. :)

Some Nvidia cards are supported, using the Nouveau driver that's built in the GroovyArcade cd. I only tested myself an old GeForce 4 and it worked fine for the most part except interlaced modes. Avoid frustration and grab a cheap Ati card.
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Hey, thanks for the answer. No worries, it's just that I had these card in a box, it was worth a try before getting an ATI one. Anyway, I kept testing with the X800 everything looks awesome and responsive using the frontend. But when I start a game, it is insanely slow, should I open another thread about this issue, or can I continue here?

Thanks again.
