Dallas Auction Jan 17 - Results

Well I'm definitely going to make it this time with my BYOAC hat and shirt!  This time I'll also have a 5 mp digital camera with hopes of loading it up with arcade side/cp/bezel graphics for the artwork thread.  Just hope I don't get yelled at before I can snap off 200 or so pics, heh heh.

I'm not going to be able to make this one, but I do plan on getting to the Dallas (Mesquite) one again this year.  Perhaps in March...

I'll be there finally (after missing the last few).   Looks like rain this weekend, so hopefully there will be a smaller crowd.

I'll be there in the afternoon...
I'm tired of sitting around all day & being to tired to wait for the parts tables...
I should be getting there around 4PM.
Red BYOAC hat & camping chair.  ;D
Gotta wait for that good stuff in style!

(Maybe I'll catch a cheap cab around then too...  ;))

See ya there!  (If any of you are still there at that point.)
I'm not a freak!...
Oh wait...
Yes I am...

I'll be there, just look for Nannuu and you'll find me.  Mentioned they have slots to my wife so I may try and pick up one of those.

Alright well the auction went well even though is was about half the size of the previous auction and there were tons of noobs there driving the prices up.  I wish I had a cab to sell, I may have done fairly well.  I was able to grab two empty cabinets.  One for a dollar and the other for free after the auction.

The dollar cab had a fully working Defender joystick in it!!!!  And another joystick handle/ball.  Ha!  No more Ebay bidding for me!  Actually that is the only reason I wanted it but I'll take a nice clean empty cab anyday for a buck.  It also had a marquee and a metal control panel from some other game at the bottom.

The second cab was given to me by some very nice guys from Kansas City that had come down to get some good deals.  They took the monitor out and didn't want the rest of the cabinet.  Which turned out super perfect as my parents bought a beat up working Mr Do at the last auction that I said I could fix for them, but it was in a converted cab, not the original.  WELL anyway, the cab given to me was an original Mr Do cab with the side art perfectly intact underneath the cruddy wood grain sticker!!!!  So now all I have to do is move all of the Mr Do parts over to the original cab and I am well on my way to a great  (and easy) restoration.  Yippee!

Another bit of interest was that someone had brought a Mame cabinet to sell which went for $2250.  Holy cow!  It was a nice clean cab and all but 2250 is just too much.  I did mention the noobs right?  It had a very nice 17" flatscreen and 60 games in it with a home printed marquee overlapped together with 3 pieces of paper.  I sure would like to be the lucky dog to sell that one.

Here is a pic of the Mr Do cab I got before I took it home.
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

Goodness!

Better get building.  17" monitor or not, thats a lot of money I'd say.  That, and its just too big.  If your gonna build something a cab, I'd say make it more proportionate to the size of the monitor.  Oh well.  Do MAME cabs always go for that much at an auction?

BTW, which games were in that cab did you find out?  I guess it was a compilation of some sorts?

I didn't get around to playing the MAME cab to see what was actually on the menu (too busy playing the Defender cab you see in Nannuu's picture just to the left), but I do know that a lot of the William's games were being played on it.

I can't remember which games but the paper on the front said something like 'the 60 best classics of all time.'  I don't think Mame cabs usually go for that much???  But I've only been to a few auctions.  I should have grabbed a picture while it was running, we think it was running Mamewah but I'm not sure.  I'm not too familiar with frontends yet.

Is it possible the MAME cab was not MAME, but a licensed, route legal,  multicade?  It doens't look like it, but it might be.  In that case it may be a bit more reasonable at 2250, although I think the new Ultracade does not go for much more than that if I remeber correctly.

That MAME cab is crap.  The coindoor looks like it's about to fall off.

Mame cabs at auction USUALLY tend to bring $500 - $1000. I have never seen any there besides 15"-19" ones. Never seen a "Deluxe" one like most of the people here like to build.

I DOUBT it was an Ultracade, an Ultracade would have had an Ultracade marquee, and a REAL arcade monitor (not a 17" PC one).

I had a great time meeting up with HagHore and Nannuu.  My game plan had slots only on the shopping list, so I was out of there before the good deals on cabs.  I knew Nannu would buy something and I'd hear "after I got it home, I found out it was a galaga, with perfect sideart and the boardsets were inside wrapped in anti-static bags with the marquee and bezel in bubble wrap....not bad for a dollar"   ;)

That $2K mame was definitely a homebrew.  There were holes left in the CP from a previous overlay, and the coindoor and cab in general were in disarray.  I beleive the frontend was Mamewah.  It had real simple directions and convienient "enter" and "exit" buttons on the front just near the coindoor.  Noobs, I mean people were lined up to come see the amazing multiple arcade machine emulator (hey what a catchy name).

2 down to the left were some other questionable machines.  A midway cab turned into a  "class of '81" went for 800.  It had a 25" screen and, for me, made the games unplayable.  I found myself looking up and down and up and down just to get bearings of ghosts and Ms Pac.  The other one was a Tatio cab turned 6 in one.  Fairly clean, I can't remember the exact price it went for, but it was over 700.

Speaking of, if you remember the last row of junk machines.  The Pengo machine with really nice sideart and dirt caked all over the face went for $85.  The buyer cleaned off the glass and cp, pulled off the back and re-wired the power, and it came right up as a working game.  I actually think that was the best buy of the auction.

It was great hanging with you NY, we all need to take a trip to Tornado's soon!

No Do-Rag sightings.

I was watching Nannuu take a picture and I started playing the Trilogy arcade game and got busted for "playing games attached to the bidding row".  I understood, but I was surprised.  Seemed the guy had to go up and down the row keeping people off the games because a fuse could blow and really mess up the auction.

Did people get yelled at for taking pictures before?

Nope, no Do-Rag this time.  I took about 160 pictures during the day and no one ever said a word.  One of the auctioneers loaded the power up for me to take some pics of a couple marquees.  I didn't try to hide taking pictures but I did have the flash turned off so it wasn't a nuisance either.

Yeah, no Do-Rag sightings by me either, however I did spy some very lovely sights of the female human variety...can't believe these guys are able to talk their wives/girlfriends into coming to these things, my wife would never let me hear the end of it if I dragged her out to an auction.

NY_in_TX, thanks for all the info you provided on those pachislos, I've done some more investigating on the web and have decided that I'm going to have to rewire the keyed reset to a toggle.  If I can find a reasonably priced autostop kit for it then I might do that as well.  I found some free instructions for converting the pachislos to accept quarters and although I was able to get mine to stop dropping the quarter out right off the bat, it just wouldn't trip the switch that is further down the path of the coin mech, so it looks like I'm stuck with a token machine.  BTW, here is the link to the conversion instructions:
http://www.slotliquidators.com/conpacslotma.html

Also want to thank NY_in_TX for the info on Tornado Terry's, that looks like a very cool place and Keller, TX ain't all that far away, perhaps we can set up a day/time for all us BYOAC DFWers to meet out there soon.

When I was there last March, no.  I took lots of pictures.  But I read that at a couple of the auctions later in the year they were telling people to stop taking pictures.  It's good to hear that they didn't mind this time.

Deoh, I pulled a Homer on my pachislo.  I did the coin conversion twice and twice thought it didn't work...helps if you plug the coin mech back into the circuit board and apply power first.  Anyway, conversion successful on the pachislo!
