ATI Catalyst Control Center
« on: February 10, 2016, 04:54:06 pm »
Hi Calamity,

First thanks for your amazing work with ATI driver and Win7

I'm now playing with a 6870 under Win7 and having issue with Demul due to "power saving" mode of the GPU

Do you know if we could install a version of CCC to disable this ?

Thank you for your help.

Also, is there a way to disable this from the registry?

You can install Catalyst 12.6, just make sure not installing the driver. I remind Dr.Venom telling me about this issue but it was with regular ATI drivers, I need to find that post.
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Thanks,

I tried to install ccc 12.6 but cannot launch it.
I have error saying no parameter can be changed with that version.
And GUI dont launch at all.

At the end what I just need to achieve is to force this card to stay at his maximum speed.
Looks to be power play ati feature doing this.

Any idea are more than welcome
Just want to avoid bios tweaking with rbe...
Thank you.

You can disable power saving mode by disabling "Ultra Low Power State" in Windows registry.
Go to "regedit" in Windows and search for all instances of "EnableULPS" and set them to "0". From what I remember most of the entries were zero except for a couple.
I had to do it for my HD5970 (a dual GPU card) because it caused one of the GPU's to wildly fluctuate in clock frequency during gaming causing uneven frame rates. It was very annoying and very poorly implemented in my opinion.

EDIT: Alternatively, a third party program like MSI Afterburner can disable ULPS. Not sure if any of this will help. Hopefully someone will be able to help you sort out getting CCC installed.

Funny, I noticed strange DEmul slowdowns but I did not think that this can be caused due energy saves modes.

Same here. Could you try sean_skroht suggestion?

Hi All,

Thanks for suggestion.

So far, I tried the registry method, no success.
I tried with iTurbo as my card is an HIS, no success.

Then, I install MSI afterburner, activate overclocking , and then overclock GPU from just 1Mhz
Reboot, and voila ! No more clock down and Demul no more had hicup :D

Hope this helps.

But indeed, CCC not working

Is there any way that we could get Catalyst Control Centre added to CRT_Emudriver as a possible optional extra. I emphasize "optional" since I know there are users who hate CCC, myself included, but I kinda need it to test a couple of things, which I wont go into details.

Tried to install CCC using the regular Catalyst 12.6 drivers but it doesn't seem to install, just installs the "install manager". Has anyone had any success with this?
