bezels cutting off

I recently downloaded some bezel artwork to fill in the blank areas on the horizontal games in mame.  Everything looks great except it cuts off some of the top part of the screen where it shows your score, the high scores and player 1up and player 2up text.  I tried playing with resolutions but that didn't seem to help.  Has anyone else had problems similar to this when trying to use bezel art?
