Interlaced games not syncing after upgrading
« on: February 04, 2016, 08:09:42 am »
Hi

I've just upgraded to CRT emudriver v2 and GM 170 (from GM 63) on a fresh install of x64 win7. I created a new mame.ini and copy/pasted all relevant settings from my old ini, into it.

Now games that run in interlaced mode aren't syncing to the refresh - even if I set 'syncrefresh 1' in mame.ini, or the game's ini. Take Pac-Man as an example, which I force to run in 2560x512@60, and disable modeline generation, on my horizontal monitor. The game is very jerky, jumping erratically between 79-99%.

Below are my mame.ini and log for running Pac-Man.

I noticed this line in the log: "Direct3D: Warning - Unable find any D3D9 DLLs; disabling post-effect rendering". Is this to do with the issue I'm having?

Thanks.

Check if forcing -video ddraw fixes the issue.
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

That does fix it, thanks. I thought ddraw was automatically used for interlaced modes when 'video auto' is set, though? Or has this changed since the last version of GM I was using?

Yes, that was the old behaviour, I changed it in 169 because the positive polarity trick made it unnecessary, but then it turned out most people can't use positive sync with their monitors. In then pinned thread where I post news about Emudriver I wrote about this, telling people to either use ddraw or d3d & frame_delay. HD 5000 and newer cards don't have any problem.

Ah OK, cheers. Looks like I'll have to go through all my interlaced game INIs and set ddraw, then.  :)

... or try enabling frame delay.
