Next question in my saga of newbness with tube swapping:
I came across this video:
In it, the guy has his arcade tube that he wants to replace with a TV tube. He cuts off the old monitors molex connectors and splices/shrinkwraps them to a random TV's yoke & degaussing coil. Then he checks the ohm's to make sure theyre good, which they are. Then he hooks that all up to his chassis and powers it on with no issues other than needing degaussing, focus etc.
The first comment below the video asks: "How do you know which tube to use? Are you just familiar with that brand of tv and know that it works? Or are the neck board and yoke connections universal?"
He answers: "As long as the impedance matches on the yoke and the neck adapter matches your good to go. Virtually all 19 or 25 TVs will work."
Is this really correct? Sounds TOO EASY! And Ed, this sounds opposite of what you were explaining (I know you know what youre talking about, which is why Im running this guys info by you guys here).
