« on: February 02, 2016, 09:38:52 pm »
Hey Guys,

I need help with my TOSHIBA PURE FLAT D29C051, I had a power surge here at my home and now all the geometry and colors are all messed up.. I was wondering if anyone has seen anything like this before and how to possibly fix it do I need a cap kit? what the hell happened?

I've included a few pics for reference...

Your monitor probably has some service "On Screen Display" option that allows the adjustments like pin cushion and color gain for the 3 individual colors. It looks like the memory holding those settings got corrupted or cleared due to that power surge. The method to enter those service settings differs with every model of monitor. Try to find a (service) manual for your specific model. Likely, all you need is a couple hours of readjustment to make it work normal again.

Hi Guys,

I was able to modify the remote board and get the service menus however, adjusting them didn't help. Looks like I may need a cap kit or a new flyback.. I found a guy locally here and I'm sending them out for repair, I'll let you know how it turns out.

thanks again for your help.

I highly doubt a capkit or a new lopt will fix your issues.
If adjusting the settings doesn't change a thing than it looks like the microcontroller responsable for the settings is no longer working properly. It will likely use IIC to communicate with the other circuits that actually change the settings. If people say you need a capkit or a lopt, it's suspicious. A capkit improves the picture quality on old monitors as capacitors dry out after some years of operation. A defective lopt usually means there is no picture at all, or there is some visible arcing.

could be eeprom, when you say you accessed the extended menu and you adjusted the blue cut off did it make any difference to the colour?
the other problem is pincushion, did you adjust that?
