Looking for advice on how to re-create design for marquee
« on: February 01, 2016, 12:14:36 pm »
I'm working on creating the marquee artwork for a cab build I'm working on, and I really like the style and font of the center 'Midway' sign of this building in my hometown:
.

Does anybody have any advice on how I might be able to recreate something like this in Adobe Illustrator? I really like the font, the light bulb look of each letter, and how the sign has been weathered/faded over time. I realize that in all likelihood I'll probably have to find something else, as it may be too hard to recreate something like this, but I thought I would ask. I would even be interested to know if somebody has a suggestion of something that might already exist in a similar style.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

What dimensions are your thinking on your marquee?

I get the impression you might be trying to go for an a little Art Deco.

I'd do a google search for BioShock Art Deco Wallpaper

Cool stuff there. Not a direct reproduction of your "Midway" sign but it could get he juices flowing.
If you can read this, it means Photobucket's money grab ruined my signature photos.

I believe it's 6x32" (not at home right now). I used ChanceKJ's build as a major reference. I can post the rest of the art later if that's helpful.

Very awesome, thanks a ton! I'm not very creative, so it helps having some sort of starting point :)

Well, the example you show is pretty tall, but the dimensions you cite are pretty wide. So you have to make some compromise somewhere.

Sorry, I guess I meant to imply one thing but that I didn't explicitly state; the text isn't going to be the same, just the font/style. It's going to say something like 'Miller Arcade'

Sorry about that!

I really like the font, the light bulb look of each letter,

You might check out this page

The font is called Broadway font or Marquee font.

They are vector fonts that have the light bulb in each letter.

Nice! Thanks a lot. This should've been obvious to me to begin with I guess. Oh well...
