Mortal Kombat 2 Build
« on: January 29, 2016, 02:25:36 pm »
So I got inspired, and I found  cheap Mortal Kombat II PCB on Ebay. I got just the board itself, but it looks like that I will need a sound board as well. Here is the link to what I got, anything else that I will need?  I know that I will need a Kick harness, Jamma Harness, a power supply, Monitor, Cab, art, joysticks, and buttons.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Untested-Mortal-Kombat-2-Arcade-Game-Board-See-Photos-/141884394868?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=41rPPVewug4rdpSHzbjL5Fk3HFo%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

So I guess that this will be my next project after the Simpsons.

You'll need a volume pot as well.

That's not on the sound board?

Nope. I had to make my own when I got an NBA Jam board that was missing it. You can get one from Bob Roberts, too.

MK2 does not use a volume pot.
Current collection - 28 cabs, 4 pins. (32 machines and not enough room)

Can you use a  MK1 Harness on a MK2 PCB?

So looking at these two pages, it seems that Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 use different connectors for the kick harness.

MK1:
http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/spies.cgi?action=url&type=pinout&page=MortalKombat.html

MK2:
http://www.arcade-museum.com/pinouts-game/8756.html

So that means a MK1 Harness can't be used with a MK2 board. :(

If your MK1 is a T-Unit, it will use the same harness as MK2. If it's a Y-Unit, yes, you'll need the separate ones.

So I found a MK4 cab about three hours away from here, and it works but has monitor issues. I am tempted to gamble the $450 and gas money to get it to see if I can make a multi-game out of it.

Around these parts (midwest) it's not easy to find a Midway MK cabinet.

So when the board get here, can I test it by putting it into my Simpsons cabinet since they are both JAMMA? I just want to see if it boots up.

Keep in mind MK uses -5V so if you don't have that run in the Simpsons harness (doubtful) you'll probably have no sound, though MK3FAN or Malenko could speak more accurately to the topic.

Well, I don't have the sound board, just the main PCB is on its way from Ebay untested. I paid a fairly cheap price for it, so I am hoping that it works or I can easily fix or have it repaired. I just want to see if it the main PCB works.

This is accurate, but you can add the -5V to your edge connector easily enough.

So to clarify, if I plug the Mortal Kombat II PCB, with no sound board just the Main PCB, into my Jamma machine, I should be able to see if it boots up correct?
