groovymame resolutions adjusting
« on: January 19, 2016, 09:25:03 pm »
Hi

I am using B&O MX 7000 tv and I am new to groovymame.

When I install catalyst 9.3 with crt emudriver (windows xp, 32 bit) and when I try default resolutions via arcadeosd.exe all my resolutions are shiftef a few centimeters to right.
I can center them in tv's service menu, however I also play consoles on this tv and I already centered image in service mode to fit them in first place.
Arcadeosd resolutions are not only a little too much to right, but also top of the screen in almost every resolution has "wavy" distortion.
I had managed to fix both problems in every single resolution via arcadeosd.exe and after tweaking horizontal and vertical geometry, all of resolutions are perfectly centered and without screen distortion at top.

My problem is however, when I launch groovymame it somehow bypasses my changed resolutions from arcadeosd and use default arcadeosd ones.
Is there any setting I can change to be able to utilize in groovymame my custom resolutions settings from arcadeosd?

I also tried to apply vmmaker to groovymame ini, however after doing that I got only 25 resolutions, instead of 120 (also with distortion and shifted image). After aplying vmmaker I don't have even resolutions like 400x256, so I can't play in original resolution Mortal Kombat games for example. When I select Mortal Kombat it is displayed in interlaced resolution, which IMHO doesn't make any sense (I want to play at the closest to original resolution).

I have also  mame plus version 0.129. And I can use all my changed resolutions from arcadeosd with this mame. However I would like to use groovymame, as it is has lower lag and it better fits vertical games on horizontal monitor.

If you want your modelines to be read-only for GroovyMAME, disable modeline_generation in mame.ini.

Make sure to use the updated versions of VMMaker that can deal with new MAME post-162 XML format. That's probably the reason you're only getting 25 modelines.

Make sure to read this guide.

I disabled modeline_generation in mame.ini, but it doesn't switch now resolutions at all. For example if I launch Killer Instinct, it is displayed in my desktop resolution that is 640x480 and not 320x240.

Groovymame .169
I eventually updated vmmaker to a new one and succesfully installed 120 modes. I typed a "ntsc" in vmmaker settings and now I dont have as much resolutions with distortion on top. The image is still however a little to wide and too much to the right side. Can I change it somehow? I don't want to change it through tv's service menu, as it is  already calibrated for consoles.

Hi All,
I have precisely the same problem with the image being shifted too far to the right in game.
I am using a Sony BVM 14M4DE and a HD 5450 video card.
In ArcadeOSD the image appears centered, and no adjustments made here are reflected in game.
Any ideas how I can shift the image to the left, without adjusting the monitor service menu options (and misaligning the adjustments for all other consoles etc.)?

Regards, MtothaJ

EDIT: In the HD 5450 CRTEmu installation guide I notice that a BVM-14M4DE is featured - are there any specific monitor settings available for this monitor?

Cisek, ntsc option is only for TVs that don't have support for PAL 50 Hz. Your TV probably can work with range 49,5 to 62 Hz like most TVs. I'll sugest to use arcade_15 mode.

Service menu is the only option here in my opinion because every conbination of frequency and resolution will give You different shift not only horizontally but also vertically. I've seen here on BYOAC guy who make for every game custom setting so he regulated only vertical size but this was probably for super resolutions. Every game basically required probably calibrating in slider controls in mame.

Increase the horizontal front porch. Create a custom crt_range for this. Use arcade_15 as a base.

Many thanks Calamity, I actually managed to arrive at a solution yesterday by decreasing the H back porch in the Mame.ini file (from 8 to 6.5).
I was really confused at first since the ArcadeOSD adjustments did not have any effect in game but now I understand that I should run it, ensure that the image is centred and note the values for all the CRT monitor variables which I then plug into MAME.ini.
