I created some artwork for a custom cabinet recently.
It's coming time when I'll need to fit this to the cabinet.
I advised the customer to take a picture of the cabinet profile, and then simply write the measurements on it.
I would then need to go into Photoshop (as I don't use Illustrator) and create a template.
I would need to this to scale.

I was literally going to create every line and assemble it in Photoshop.
So if the cabinet base would 30" wide, Id create a 30" line, etc etc.

I'm not sure if a better method exists. If anyone could provide some advice/help that would be great.

Thank you

** I did review the tutorial on here regarding the halos, and the cabinet outlines for existing templates **

Thank you all

  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Another method would be to open photoshop and create a new document 1/2" larger on all sides than the template @ 300PPI. copy paste the photo into it, place guide lines 1/2 inch in from each side to give you guides to where the largest sides should be. Scale the picture up until it is proper size. Add several other guide lines based on the measurements you have (remember the actual template is 1/2 inch larger on all sides so add/subtract that from the measurements for the rulers -- ie. if you want a 26 inch measurement for the width you will want the guide line at 1/2" and 26.5 inches not 0 and 26 inches !) and verify if they are also lined up ( if not chances are the pic was not dead center when taken so you may need to adjust the perspective to get things lined up ).

Depending on how well the pic was lined up when taken it may be easy or it might be easier to start from scratch and draw each line like you mentioned.

I had posted a bit of a tutorial for doing this awhile back that might help explain it better - HERE ( http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,133119.msg1369829.html#msg1369829 )
