Time Crisis 3 questions
« on: January 04, 2016, 05:35:35 pm »
So I acquired a blown up pair of Time Crisis 3 cabs.  The previous owner was moving it and swerved on the freeway, launching the cabs out the side of his truck.  Needless to say, this didn't do good things to the cabs.  Monitors exploded, wood shattered and collapsed.  Still a lot of parts worth salvaging though.

My primary question is in regards to the main units.  They look like PC's...  but upon closer inspection, they look like PlayStation 2s!  The things literally have what looks like a PS2 memory card plugged into them and what looks like controller ports!  Did they seriously just perma-mount a PS2 inside these cabinets?

I'm not familiar with the time crisis cabs specifically, but yeah, nearly every arcade game released in that time period is running on a suped up console or a Linux pc.  F-Zero AX is running on modified gamecube hardware, for example.

I'm gonna open the shell on one tonight and see if it will read one of my other PS2 games.

I doubt it will.  Typically the arcade hardware is modified just enough so that home discs won't play.  Or else nobody would buy upgrades to the arcade versions.

It says that every game has an slight modification...but you can try anyway :D

As for the cabinets, will you try to restore them?

Oh no.  Like I said, the wood parts were literally exploded.  They went out of a pickup on the freeway at 70mph.  There's not much to restore.  The yellow metal pedestal parts survived and the main CPU units.  One of the guns is good, the other is busted in half.  I'm going to try testing the CPUs and probably toss em up for resale for my buddy.  The guns I'm thinking of repairing/keeping and shoving AimTraks into.

lots of arcade systems at this time period are modded consoles and run modded console games.

the Sega Naomi system is basically a sega dreamcast.... trifoce system,  a gamecube... sega super system 256, a playstation 2....the Sega Chihiro *spits* is a modded xbox.

it was far cheaper to purchase established hardware than it was to ground up design a system...and at the time, console hardware was the bombdiggity and had plenty of titles that could easily be changed to insert coin instead of press start.

Hello all,

PLEASE HELP!!!

There is a message on the screen of my TIME CRISIS 4 (2 Players) arcade that is showing the fallowing message on the screen and doesn`t let me play the game:

TIME CRISIS 4 HAS AN AUTOSAVE FEATURE.
DO NOT TURN OFF THE POWER WHILE THE HDD ACCED INDICATOR IS LID.

Any ideas on what to do?

Thanks to All!!

I don't know the time crisis 4 game specifically, but that sounds like something that should not be appearing.

check your disk and make sure everything is okay with it. also, if you can enter the service mode before the game loads, you should be able to perform some kind of media test or game files test to see if everything is okay.

the service buttons are inside the coin door.

Dude.  Start a new thread, you're more likely to get a response that way.  Thread hijacks are lame.
