GM 0.169 on XP?
« on: January 04, 2016, 06:41:18 am »
Allo,

Just built myself GM 0.169 and dropped it onto my cab PC to find that I'm getting the vsync issue. Looking into things it sounds like I need to use vmmaker 2.0 to generate new modelines, but as my cab is running on XP x64 with an atom flashed X1700, is this going to be possible as the new CRT Emu Drivers are based on Cat. 12.6 for 7/8/10?

Am I out of options unless I upgrade to Win 7?

EDIT: I'm fairly certain my gfx card is labelled as an X1800, but for some reason Windows picks it up as an X1700 which isn't listed under compatible cards, but either way it's been working fine with prev. GMs after being flashed with Atom.

You don't need to install new drivers for XP, just use the new tools to create the modes.
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Thanks for clarifying that Calamity, I realise now I missed the note saying that the tools could be used with the older XP CRT Emu drivers.

However, I'm having a real problem getting the new modelines installed. At first I ran the new VMMaker over my prev install which made me loose vsync, so I've had to remote into the cab pc, run the ATI cleaner and start again. Unfortunately the same thing has happened with a fresh install of the drivers, then running VMMaker again. The closest I've got is using the min dotclock 8.0 value but that resulted in my desktop being unstable at anything other than 640x480@60 with 4bit colour.

Any advice would be amazing.

Running VMMaker 1.4b fixes the problem?

I haven't specifically run VMM 1.4b but I have reverted to a version of CRT Emu Drivers 1.2 with my modelines stored in it, so essentially the same deal. That fixes my windows desktop issue and allows my FE to run. However, any games I try in GM 0.169 are back to being out of sync.

Yeah you won't be able to run 0.169. Keep at 0.168 until I fix things.

Any word on XP compatibility with the new VMMaker at this point? Is it safe to update past .168?

Yes, all those issues should be fixed already.
