Marquee Advise
« on: January 11, 2004, 05:32:26 pm »
I'm designing my potential marquee, and I can't decide what colours to use, in order that it will look good once lit up (this is the first cab)...

I think this one looks quite sharp, I would perhaps change the shadow color:

...But bearing in mind my cab is black, would something more colourful be better?

Any opinions?  Also, do you think it is 'missing' something?  I'd perhaps like to do something with the background, but not sure what yet...

This is also something Ive been curiouser about since Im nearing my marquees completeion..
On standard backlighted material with a regualr white florescent behind it what colors look good and stay true and what washes out, doesnt let as much light thru, etc

On something like the first one above Id assume that the black would stay black and not let any light thru

I think ideally the black wouldn't let any light through, but depending how it is printed and on what, it may do.  Anyone know what type of paper/material marquee's should be printed on?

Here is another one of my ideas I'm toying with:

My vote is for the 3rd one, it looks more arcade authentic which means it will probably look the best when back lit.

I like the color scheme of the third one the best.  It gets my vote.

Thanks guys, I took the orangey scheme from the RoadBlasters text on the marquee shown on the RB flyer (not the final released marquee I think), so I guess you're right Cave, it is the most arcade authentic :)

Any preference about the last 'M'?  Should I use the MAME one or the same as the rest of the text?

Thanks again, I've been looking at these (& more) all day and I just can't decide!

I like the 3rd(blue bkgr)
I dont like the M on the last one,it would be possible to switch from square letters to angles but the effects on that one dont pull it off, it looks tacked on as an afterthought

I like the M on the 3rd, same style, maybe give it the same white outline, and run the gradient the same direction as the SYSTEM part

Just a note about where I got this idea...I used Atari's System 1 logo from their flyers to begin with (see pic).  I noticed that after adding the 'M' to the end it kindof looked like 'SYSTEMIM' or 'SYSTEM I'M' (see the first 2), so I altered the 1 a little.

My cab is based on a System 1 cab, and I thought 'M' would be appropriate for MAME or Minwah / MAMEWAH etc. :)

just a quick mockup alternative

I could see how 'systemim' might be the result of the red one
