Mortal Kombat Arcade - Custom Cab
« on: December 06, 2015, 05:48:06 pm »
Here is a Mortal Kombat themed arcade machine that I did the custom artwork for. A friend of a friend called me a while back as he knew I did some custom artwork. He purchased a Slimline 2 Player upright flat pack from ArcadeWorx and wanted some custom art for it. His favourite game series is Mortal Kombat (hence the extra buttons he added to the panel for MKX!)

Anyway finally got round to his house today to have a look at the finished product. Art came out great. He is just running a very, very old copy of my Mamewah install until he updates his PC. He's now caught the arcade bug and is currently building a small desktop Virtual Pin, a Pokie machine and a sit down racer. :)

Looks good, nice job.

Whats up with the horizontal ridges on the marquee though? Kind of looks like you glued the artwork to cardboard or something.

Yeah my friend learnt a big lesson there - DO NOT use a brush to paint a cabinet!! LOL.  He won't be doing that again!

K, wait, so he painted over the Marquee?

Like the profile of that cab though....

Yay, no coin door like me.......I'm so happpyyyyy!!!

The artwork is kinda busy on the CP, the split gemini look kinda projects a Mortal Scorpion vs. Sub Zero theme instead of a Mortal Kombat Theme.

I guess if you go that route skin the whole thing Gemini, you stopped the look at the CP but did it everywhere else.

Like the button surrounds and the jstick arrows though, very clean.

Yes he painted the Marquee as that was mdf too.  You can order the cabs with a piece there if you want to have a non backlit marquee or you can get it CNC cutout with text etc.  When he got his artwork printed the printer (also a friend) actually printed him a spare copy on a piece of Perspex so he can always change it at a later date.

I guess you always learn these things on your first build.  I remember the lovely character stickers I slapped all over my first mame cab years ago.  And the nice marbled contact paper over the CP.  LOL

Just saw your build here and was reminded of this awesome skin on Maximus Arcade... thought it was a perfect kind of match.

That's cool.  I'll have to show my mate, he might want something like that on the cab.  Thanks.

I checked out the company site that did the cabinet and they are a lot more affordable then i thought they would be. I love the MK dragon cut out like Rablack did on his and the Ash cutout from evil dead/Army of Darkness.
