Best "fighter" on Wii
« on: December 02, 2015, 11:08:36 am »
Over  Thanksgiving, a visiting nephew noticed Super Smash Brothers for Wii on my shelf.  This 2 button fighting makes me sad.

Q1: If I get the special gamepad, can we do more complex moves?

Q2: Is there a better fighter on Wii?

Smash is for people that can't play real fighters.  Don't get me wrong, it can be complex if you want it to be and you can still have a lot fun but facts are facts.

It isn't that complex a game.  Typically you use a gamecube controller and the left stick is for movement while the right is specials, so you are probably fine as-is.  Plug a nunchuck in and you are good to go.

Tatsunoko vs Capcom is the best fighter on the system.  It's Capcom vs some obscure (to the west anyway) anime characters.  It runs on a scaled down version of the sfiv engine and feel very much like Marvel vs Capcom.  You'll need a real gamepad for that one though.

Other than that there aren't a whole lot of fighters on the wii unless you count the virtual console.

Thanks.
I'll look for that.  And some more gamepads.

I keep the wii around for mario and amazon prime.  If I had the dreamcast plugged in, I could have had MvsC2 going.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is the answer. As a Street Fighter and vs. series fan it's one of my favorite entries - I prefer it to MVSC3 and Street Fighter x Tekken. As Howard said don't bother without controllers - it supports classic controller and gamecube. The gamecube d-pad is a little tiny (and I dislike using the analog stick for this, for obvious reason) but it gets the job done.

I recommend getting classic controllers or adapting your favorite fighting pad/arcade stick to a Gamecube port.

There's also a release of Capcom vs SNK 2 for Gamecube though I haven't tried it. If it's an older wii that can do Gamecube that could be fun.

Eric if you're still looking I've got a copy of Tatsunoko vs Capcom for the Wii, also have a (hardly used) Wii hori fight stick. Here's some pics.
Just send me a pm if you're interested.

Thanks

Those sticks are the bees knees.  Great for the VC as well.

Hey Eric, also check out the King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga. If you don't mind the 4 button layout, they are great Snk classic fighters.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom was an awesome game IMHO.
I picked up two cheap fighter sticks for the Wii for $20 CDN (and that was long , long ago)........I bet you could find some locally on Craigslist cheap. To me it made for a more authentic fighting experience.
