I have jeepguys artwork set and I don't think it contains ALL vert games. Just the popular ones. Also it contains a couple horizontal games like Mario bros and defender.

However, jeepguys xml is a good start.

Created with romlister in about 5 seconds.  I used MAME 149 as the source- I doubt anything useful has been added since then.
1 button (or less) vertical, 2/4/8/49/analog stick, no clones, outputted to hyperspin xml.

I'm not a HS user, so I'm hoping this meets your criteria.
