I dont think I have noticed any halved refresh rate issues.

Is there a good example on how to check?

What are the downsides to the current config (CRT-Emu 2.0beta + vmm 1.4b) ?

Run a game that requires an interlaced mode, and force -video d3d. You'll notice how the speed is locked at 50%. Pre-169 versions of GM workaround this by forcing -video ddraw but that was always a temporary hack. Version 169 no longer requires this and can use d3d in all situations.

But this is achieved by forcing the polarity flags to zero. Although there's a separate setting to set polarity, it seems the other one has priority over this. This is most likely the issue you're seeing.

Downsides are mainly on my end, when you spend a year on a project you expect it to work in all situations, rather than having people resorting to the old version to workaround unexpected issues.

Apart from that, obviously, you're missing all the nice features of the new VMMaker (which aren't still documented because we're just starting to use it).

Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

I am using the Ultimarc Video Amp at the moment to connect the PC-Video to the Chassis.
I am using a KeyWiz-40-ST for the controls. (PS/2)

I thought that the Video Amp would be much like the JPAC.

If you think it would help, I could get a JPAC and rewire the whole thing (removing the KeyWiz)

I have double checked the Chassis and there are no signs of any switch for the sync polarity

I forgot you had the video amp. It outputs c-sync so it should be good...  ???

Does your chassis admit direct vga signal?

No

The Chassis only has the RGB input (attached the pic from the monitor repair guide).

My version does not have the "not used" pin, it only has 5 pins.

Ok I think the problem is definitely a polarity issue, your monitor needs composite negative sync and the new vmmaker outputs positive sync. I'll need to figure out a solution. If you have the patience, maybe tomorrow I can upload a test build. Thanks for testing.

Hi Calamity,

It would be the least I could do!

Look forward to it.

Hi Calamity,

I installed 2.0b3 drivers.

Edited monitor.ini
Quote
monitor "generic_15", "Generic 15.7 kHz", "4:3"
        crt_range0 15625-15750, 49.50-65.00, 2.000, 4.700, 8.000, 0.064, 0.192, 1.024, 1, 1, 192, 288, 448, 576

edited user_modes.ini: (super + 2 more)
Quote
320 x 256 @ 50.000000 amiga
2560 x 224 @ 60.000000 super

Ran VMM, double checked generic_15 was selected. Installed modes... then lost the screen sync. Rebooted with LCD attached to regain control of the PC.

The modeline output shows +hsync !?

Anything else to try?

Hi Calamity,

I thought that I would purchase a 5450 (passive) to try and avoid the halved refresh.
Quote
The HD 5000+ cards don't suffer from the halved refresh issue with interlace, whatever the sync polarity

I installed the 2.0b5 drivers. Ran vmmmaker used the generic15 profile. Followed your instructions to swap monitors.

I now have a nice 640x480i pic (much nicer than the 4350).

However, running GroovyMAME169_fix6, I still get a rolling screen. It appears that no matter what I do a positive sync is sent.

My chassis is a negative sync only :(

Is there anything I can try?

Hi kortina,

We have recently found out that ATI documentation is wrong for HD 5000+, so when we set negative sync, it's actually positive sync and vice versa. I'll be posting an update of GM and the CRT Tools later today. By now, setting +hsync +vsync both in GroovyMAME and VMMaker should produce -hsync -vsync (despite what's reported).

Hi Calamity,

CRTEmu2.0b7 is working fantastic, no sync issues. Great crisp picture.

The HD5450 does a nicer job with the desktop/hyperspin@ 640x480i too.

Not sure if it is just me (its late) or a driver issue:
Gauntlet Legacy seems to be out of range, where it worked before?

Will provide some more detail tomorrow (let me know what you need).

Thanks again for your work on the driver and GM, it is most appreciated.
