Some guidance...
« on: November 16, 2015, 05:24:27 am »
Hello everyone,
After some tests, I decided to install in my cabinet the crt_emudriver + groovymame with win7 64b.

At this point in my setup is as follows:
- Core2Duo PC
- Radeo HD 4550
- CRT 19 "PHILIPS (for testing and settings)
- Intervideo VP250 - 25 "(arcade monitor)
- Hyperspin 1.4 frontend
- Groovymame + CRT-emudriver
- 370 MAME Roms v0.164 (my custom list)

Install the crt emudriver driver for my graphics card (HD4550) in win7 was not a simple task (compared with win xp) and it took me some time to get it.
I managed to install it with windows in "Test Mode", otherwise the drive stops working.
When i had everything configured (follow this tutorial: ) "HyperSpin" and "HyperLaunch" failed to open (RocketLauncher with no problems).
I went looking for the answer to my problems and i read in a thread that "HyperSpin" had an incompatibility with the number of resolutions generated by VMMaker and could not stand more than 100.
I went to the .ini file of VMMaker and replace the 120 modes by 100 modes and "HyperSpin"  and "HyperLaunch" returned to work.

Right now it seems everything is working properly and i would just like to put some questions to anyone who can help me to clarify them:

01. Is it OK to continuously run windows 7 in "Test Mode"?
02. Regarding the video modes, keep the 100 modes or is there a way around for this limitation of HyperSpin
03. Any tips or additional information you guys think important to optimize HyperSpin to GroovyMAME?

Thanks for your time!

Yes, if you read the installation instructions, you MUST run it in test mode..

No, it may be fixed when HS 2.0 comes out, but we'll have to wait and see.
But there's no issue with it being limited to 100 anyway..

But what is "Test" mode ?

"Test mode", actually "test signing", only applies to Windows 7 drivers.

Man, I'm still stuck trying to install CRT Emudriver w/ Radeon 4300 on W7. Is there anyway to know it's installed properly on a regular monitor? I keep thinking I have it, then connect my computer up to my arcade and get no picture. Then I unplug everything and hook it back up to my PC monitor, and the cycle continues. All the while my girlfriend gives me looks like I'm crazy.

You should get some (distorted) picture even if the driver was not installed. Figure out the correct output to use first.

I do get some image, yes but it's too scrambled to do anything on it. Would it be because it's not saving the output when I shut it down to then plug it into the arcade?

Scrambled picture is TOTALLY different to no picture.

What output are you using?  Are you sure you have set a 15 kHz mode before plugging the arcade monitor?

Haha fair enough!

It's probably not set at 15 kHz. What I've been doing is trying to get it to output at 15, while its still connected to an LCD monitor, then shutting it down and restarting it while plugged into the arcade monitor and I think it's probably resetting back to something else. Would that make sense? I think I'll need to try keeping the computer on and switching from an LCD to the monitor and see how that works.

I'll try again. What output are you using?

a) VGA
b) DVI
c) Something else

Oh, sorry...It's a radeon HD 4350, using the DVI output with a DVI->VGA adapter to a J-PAC.

Download the latest VMMaker + Arcade OSD package from here: http://geedorah.com/eiusdemmodi/forum/viewtopic.php?id=65

(don't reinstall the driver! just grab the package and use the updated versions of VMMaker + Arcade OSD)

Then, when you set the desktop resolution from Arcade OSD, use  the "Set as default display mode" option.

If the mode doesn't persist after reboot, enter the Windows resolution options and select it from there (advanced->show all modes).

Ok, so I was able to get an image working on my monitor!
I just picked the first setting in ArcadeOSD, so not sure if that is actually optimal or not. It's a WG K7000, does that sound like the correct setting?

Also, not sure what display resolution to pick in Windows, I kept trying to find one that made it look not so huge but to no avail. I noticed that the one LED on the JPAC remained orange, it's not supposed to turn green is it?

Lastly, MAME looked AMAZING!! Was so happy to finally see it working on the monitor, but for whatever reason the screen was very narrow. I'm sure that's a setting in MAME or something that I'll have to tinker with.

GroovyMAME is defaulting to the desktop resolution, that means it's not properly configured. Just follow the guide: http://geedorah.com/eiusdemmodi/forum/viewtopic.php?id=290

Also, pick a higher resolution for the desktop, e.g. 640x480.
