Sega Genesis w/ 80 built in games
« on: November 14, 2015, 05:16:13 pm »
Missed the boat last year on this :  http://www.atgames.us/Sega-Genesis-Classic-Console-FB8200R-80.htm
I've reserved one and I'll pick it up tomorrow.
Some ways ago I read about some SD cart you could load ROMs onto and play with the console.
Anyone know if that would work with something like this ?
That would be awesome if it would.

For that matter the name of the cart itself...............I'm off to Google now.......but any info/advice/tips/feedback are welcome.

Ok..... it's a genesis on a chip and therefore the sound is horrible... also it's composite out only.

The "cart" that you can buy is merely an sd card adapter.  It won't work on anything but that fake system.

You can get a everdrive md on aliexpress for 40-60 dollars and they run on a real genesis.  It's probably a much better investment.

Thank you.
With that said, I wonder if the other versions (that work with the real Genesis) would work in this ATGAMES
unit.

I just picked it up today, $45 CDN. I won't complain about that. But I am open to searching for a real Genesis with SD cart option. I'll just look at overall cost.

If one of these SD CART options would work with the real Genesis and this unit I bought that would rock.

Well like I said, get an everdrive md.  The Chinese versions you see on some websites are identical to the "official" one and you will pay about half.

So long as you don't care about the condition, you can get a working genesis for around 30 dollars.  Just make sure you get a model 1.  It has stereo sound (via the headphone jack) and is littered with hardware glitches.  That sounds like a bad thing but these glitches were taken advantage of by various game companies to make new sounds and visual effects.  So on a model 3, for example, gargoyles doesn't play right and the sound tracks on several games are "weird".

It's a good investment though.  Get a model 1 and the everdrive md and right off the bat you can play all the genesis games and most of the master system games (if you get a master system gamepad I believe you can play them all).  Buy a 32x adaptor and you can play all the 32x games as well.  If you get the sega cd add-on you can boot different bioses.

Dollar General sells these for 30 bucks in Virginia.  I bought one and I have to chime in on this.  The controllers suck, they do not respond at all and even a genuine Sega controller has response issues.  Actual Genesis games are buggy and most of mine freeze or do not display fully.  The sound is choppy and sounds like a mono 8 bit NES.  I would stay away from these things and buy a used Genesis from ebay.  Just my 2 cents...

Good to know about the Chines ever drives. The $5 R-pi makes all the 4,8, & 16 bit system on a chip a bad option.

I unpacked this on Christmas and took it over to my moms to give it a go.
At $46 CDN I thought it was fun.
Everything I played seemed OK, even the MK.
Controllers were OK at best, but they worked.
I had the unit on top of an old 43" projection TV and did find that I had to move around a lil so the controller worked better.
But I wont complain.

I'll look into the cartridge option as a means of playing more games.
