Need help with dual lightgun setup, reward added. Anyone?
« on: November 14, 2015, 08:52:04 am »
Hi Guys,

I purchased 2 aimtrack light guns brand new and can't seem to get both to work simultaneously. When I try configure the second gun in MAME they both show up as Gun 1 x-axis, y-axis, etc no matter what I try. Please see notes below. Can anyone please help me troubleshoot? I have followed the instructions and tried the many different suggestions in this forum and on youtube with no success.

Notes:
Guns are set to be separate ID's in the aimtrak utlility, I have tried lots of different ID combinations.
I verified with the controllerremap utility that they are separate ID's and devices
Both guns calibrate perfectly in windows and both control the mouse

The problem is that within MAME (I am using 0.149 and gameex front end) they are both seen as GUN 1 when calibrating the X and Y axis for player 1 lightgun and player 2 lightgun. I have tried every possible core input option in mame.ini like multiple mouse = 1 or 0, etc  and all the other settings on the youtube videos and forum entries. No matter what I do both guns appear to be the same gun "1"  to Mame.

I have also tried different USB hubs, unplugging my USB keyboard, rebooting a million times, different games.
Also tried deleting mame.ini and rebuilding it from scratch.

Can anyone please let me know how to troubleshoot MAME input devices? Is there a command to see which devices are using which ID's and possibly force my 2 guns to use different ID's?

*Reward - Will paypal for resolution. I have spent hours trying to get both guns to work with no luck. PM me for amount.

Hi teebo2345,

which type of MAME do you use ? The "out of factory" binary or a self compiled version ? The reason, I ask for this is, that a Directinput enabled version of MAME does not accept multiple mouse (lightgun) devices. If you do, try a "normal" RAWinput version !

+1 on using the official MAME build.
If you're going to run a "No Nag" version, then you should know to try to replicate a problem in the official build before posting about it.

Some other ideas:

It really sounds like multimouse isn't enabled.

The games could have individual ini files overriding your mame settings.
(it's been a long time.  IIRC, they are in a folder named ini)

Have you tried running a game using only MAME without the front end?
Not sure about Game_EX, but some front-ends monkey with your ini settings.

Not worried about a reward.
