Golden tee Complete WG 9200 no display
« on: November 13, 2015, 06:32:58 pm »
Hello I have been doing some research and I have found this is definitely the website for getting great knowledgable people helping others. I just got a good deal on a Golden Tee Complete game that I do not know the history, but I'm hoping I can fix it myself. The WG 9200 is not working, just makes a constant clicking sound.  Where should I start? I know the board is putting out a signal as I can connect fine to a PC monitor. I have a multimeter and am pretty handy. Hopefully someone can get me started troubleshooting?

possibly the most complex and difficult monitor you could start with
the clicking could be down a multitude of problems, first thing to check is for bad solder joints, shorted HOT,bad caps, burnt out deflection yoke

you would need to remove the deflection and inspect it internally for any burns or corrosion

Well that's not good news. I am working in this with a friend who recommended this site. We have started with the caps and solder joints, found a few bad caps between the main chassis and neck board. Hope that does the trick, hopefully try it tomorrow. Is the HOT the largest one at Q418? How do we test it? Remove it and check for a direct short with a continuity tester? Not sure how to remove the deflection yoke, but the plug that comes from the yoke looks a bit burnt at one wire.

Don't remove the deflection yoke from the tube. It also has the color purity rings mounted on them, and those can be a pain to re
adjust.
You can desolder the HOT and measure it for shorts. Most chassis can be powered with the hot removed. If there is a short in the LOPT, the tikking should no longer be there with the HOT removed. You should have an additional load on the chassis B+ voltage if you power the chassis with the HOT removed. I use a 220V 40W light bulb for that purpose. As the B+ voltage is usully between 100 and 200V, that bulb should light a little if the B+ voltage comes up.

The friend and I have been sending private messages regarding this monitor.

to summarise the conversation...

From what I can tell it's going to need some blown out caps replaced in it and then depending on what happens after....we can go from there.

well for sure the 9200 series is a dog to fix
u must after a re-cap kit and the odd hot replacement inspect the yoke..
that is a must period, and here is why
the yoke in the 92xx series were the hardest driven yokes, which caused the yoke
to burn the plastic that hold's it in place,+ with it been driven so hard the windings do tend to burn through
which u can olny see by removing the yoke.
if u are lucky like me u can "ring" the yoke and catch the short, but most
do not have a proper yoke ringer at hand.
hence u do a visuial

I've been messing with this monitor for mr.rocks with The help of lilshawn. I have determined it will take someone smarter than us to beat this thing. I found some bad caps, replaced them, did some troubleshooting with Shawns direction, found it to be the high 170 voltage area. I'm going to out it aside for parts and he can put an LED monitor instead. Found a nice 27" benq for around $200 at memory express that works perfectly, and just barely fits too!
