Mame vs MameUI
« on: November 13, 2015, 10:14:29 am »
for the last day or so, I been preparing a list of games to put in my mame/emulator cabinet, and I was able to get everything I need using MameUI.
I used UI bc when I load a rom, and if there are files missing, it tells you what is missing from what zips.
Even tho I was able to get the necessary zips (roms and BIOS) and everything works with UI, but if I tried using just Mame, some roms are unable to load informing its is missing the necessary roms or CHDs.
Both Mame and MameUI are v167, and downloaded from their respective websites.

I have been using my Win10 laptop to gather the required files, and running the roms using it to make sure they work and have the required files.
The Cabinet PC is running XP.

Does MameUI have files of it own to allow games to play that Mame does not?

Also, how do I get MameUI to list the games I currently have in my Roms folder, and not list every single one in existence?
The complete list helps when your trying to figure out what parent roms are needed, but it drags the program with it open.

To answer that last question, just right click on one of the folders on the left hand side, choose "custom filters", and from there you will be able to check off what you want MameUI to hide..

played around with it, but its not showing what I want.
Instead of the UI to show every game in existence, I just want it to show the zips I have in my ROMs folder.
I think with it showing everything, its making the program ungodly slow to update its view.

Go to File - Audit all roms

that will force it to audit your roms folder and then it will only list those that you have in the folder as working.

just found that option right before reading the reply  :lol
Thanks.

Now to figure out why UI can play the games while Mame cant.

Iv included a screenshot of a small portion of the list shown, and what zips i do have.

That looks like junk from the MAME/MESS merge.  If you don't want to run MESS stuff just ignore it.

Fair enough.

ill create a custom folder, and all all the items i have into it, just so i can have an isolated list with only what i need to show.
thanks for the help

EDIT: since you mentioned that the extra stuff were MESS items, i was able to figure out the filters, and filterd out the MESS items, showing almost only what i have.

agreed.
filtering it to remove all the MESS items brought the list to show the roms i had.
i already gone away from UI, and ended up compiling a mame .167 with patches to save high scores and no nag.

this thread can be disregarded now.
thanks for the advice.
