Ash vs Evil Dead
« on: October 31, 2015, 02:17:28 am »
Ok so the first episode premiered....so far so good.  A bit too much cgi-fu for my tastes, but it felt like evil dead, so it's off to a good start.  I actually snickered at a few of the lines, which is a hard reaction to get out of me.  I really only have two complaints about the show thus far.  First off he isn't working S-Mart anymore.  That means no more "shop smart, shop s-mart" lines.  K-mart is still around... they bought Sears for pete's sake.

Secondly, they don't seem to be acknowledging Army of Darkness, which is odd considering they had an Evil Dead marathon to promote the show right before the episode that ended with Army of Darkness.  His other adventures aren't mentioned either, which I guess is understandable, but how cool would it have been to passingly mention that over the last 30 years he's faced Freddy and Jason, Xena Warrior Princess with a handsomely familiar Autolycus, the Marvel Zombies and the Reanimator! And that's not even all the crossovers!  I mean part of me thinks it's funny and fitting to discover that Ash has been sitting on his butt for the past 30 years but the rest thinks it would be far funnier to have him in his own twisted version of Quantum Leap for the last 3 decades.

Army of Darkness I still see being part of events he was part of, but all the others (including comics) are non-canon and are clearly subjective.

Could still leave a few nods to reference though.

Well they don't show any clips of it and he keeps saying over and over that he hasn't had trouble with the book in 30 years.  Also he's using a stupid wooden hand instead of his mechanical hand made in the middle ages.  So they seem to be skipping it.

It's my understanding that they failed to secure the rights to AoD, which is why it isn't mentioned.

Loved the pilot and look forward to the rest of the series, but I'm a long-time Evil Dead fan (I've even been to Evil Dead: The Musical three times).

I just seen E1 and liked it a lot. Hopefully they can keep it up.
