Just found this...thought ya'll would want a peek.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/donbluth/dragons-lair-the-movie?ref=nav_search

The worst sort of kickstarter. A kickstarter to fund a movie pitch which would then try to fund the movie via a kickstarter campaign. If the IP was viable then Disney would be drooling all over it.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

I'm not saying they couldn't make a successful movie, but I can't imagine the IP contributing much of anything to it.

I couldn't make it through the pitch.

So Don Bluth wouldn't be interested because he was into theater.  You can buy Don Bluth art instructional DVDs.

Maybe they were trying to do some dramatic story telling, but to me I saw a person that wasn't interested in the animation unless it was funded by someone else.

And another thing!

Why in the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- are the blu-ray and shirt and hat and pins priced so high?  I'd wear the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- out of those if they were realistically priced.

Oh well.  I'd like it to happen but their ego is too large, their doubt and speculation is too much that they wouldn't take the risk when the retro scene has been so huge and almost passed them by.  I think they missed their window.

Its easy to be critical behind a keyboard, but I'm not the one asking for money

I was thinking the same thing actually. I enjoy Bluth's movies, but I heard he's a bit...difficult. A couple of my school instructors worked with him and had some interesting stories to tell. I would have thought for sure that there would have been a copy of the video game in some form as part of the KS as well, but didn't see any mention of it.

Man.... a few years ago (5? 10?) I randomly flipped on Letterman and Don Bluth came on to discuss some random crap like basketball.  They spent 90% of their time yakking about Dragon's Lair.  That guy has never moved on.

I wonder how many backers think they're getting a blu ray copy of the movie. (you get a copy of the game)

To reiterate what paigeoliver said, they're raising $550,000 to pitch a $70 million dollar movie.
The pitch could get funded and then the movie get turned down.

I'd throw in $50 for a completed project Blu-ray, but to fund the actual pitch, with no guarantee that it'll get made? I'm good, thanks.

And, lets not forget there is about a 50 percent chance that Don Bluth would die somewhere between now and the movie getting done.

14 days to go and with under $400k left, I'm starting to worry that the influx of donations has tapered off.

It would be better if they made a new arcade game, then try to make a movie.

Like most have said - this ship sailed and sunk years ago.  Is this because of Pixels or Wreck it Ralph?  Why now?

I was watching an old documentary about an animated movie created in the 70s that was 80% complete, stored in a film vault and has yet to see the light of day.  I'm sure there are 100s of animated films waiting to be made, but not on a video game that had so many releases, on so many platforms.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

My response to the movie will likely be like my response to the game.

"Hey, what are all those people watching?"
"Wow that looks awesome"

Then it's my turn

"Hey, this sucks!!"

C'mon, I'm a huge Dragon's Lair fan and I love Don Bluth, but is this kickstarter saying that they need half a million bucks to begin making an animated movie?  How can Don Bluth Inc. not have the cash on hand to make a movie he owns the exclusive rights to?  Not to mention the revenue from all the other Bluth projects and movies.  His net worth is over 2 million alone.  It would be awesome if they would make a movie, but backers are kind of paying twice in the long run.

The project isn't really viable. He doesn't want to lose his own money.

It's really sad that the audience just isn't in it for this.  I've recently seen one for MST3000 and like Reading Rainbow, folks have been practically jizzing money all over the place trying to fund it.  Dragon's Lair isn't something that enough people know of and those who are introduced typically have nothing short of a passing interest.

Well it's just like I said in the MST3K thread.  It's a horrible idea for everyone involved.  Fans of Dragon's Lair want a new GAME.  Fans of Bluth's films want a film from him that doesn't suck like the last 5 or so he did.  So the idea of a Dragon's Lair film contradicts both because Dragon's Lair is a horrible IP to make a successful film out of.

The whole kickstarting a pitch thing kind of pissed me off as well.

Maybe they looked how Star Citizen took money and opted to go that route.  I would donate for a new Space Ace or DL Game, than a direct to DVD venture.  After Star Citizen I stopped funding vaporware.
