iDisplay (or equivelent) and Windows 10?
« on: October 25, 2015, 03:19:17 pm »
Ok so I finally found something that Windows 10 truly breaks.  iDisplay the android/iOS app that lets you use your tablet as a secondary monitor, doesn't seen to work anymore.  I don't think this is M$'s fault as the windows-side app hasn't been updated since 2013.

So has anyone gotten it working in 10 OR does anyone have a similar app that works in 10?

Thanks.

I switched from using idisplay to Splashtop on Windows 7. For the sake of trying it out under Windows 10 for you, I put the splashtop streamer on a Windows 10 VM and connected to its second screen successfully using both Splashtop Personal (remote control, with secondary screen as a side effect) and Splashtop XDisplay (secondary screen is it's purpose) from my ipad.

I'll give it a shot, thanks.

I don't know if VM can be trusted though... the change appears to be an underlying change in security permissions for video drivers.

I looked at the website.  Unless I'm confused as to what the app does that isn't at all what I was talking about.

iDisplay allows you to use a tablet as a secondary monitor.  You know where you can have multiple monitors, all displaying different things, in windows?

This app appears to be a remote desktop app, which is an app that you "dial in" to your pc and access it remotely.

The Splashtop Personal product is primarily a remote control product, but if you have two displays defined (even if you don't have the second monitor), it can show you either display on the ipad. If you view the secondary screen, but continue to control the PC from the PC itself, in effect it's a secondary display.

As for the extended-display-only project, it looks like they now have both wired and wireless versions of Xdisplay. Try the free versions (12 minute sessions at a time) and see if they work out for you. The wireless is supposed to work on Windows 10, but only gave me a mirrored screen. I didn't try the wired one yet.

At least someone's still working on a product that will do what you want.

Well I'll be frank.  Anyone wanting to do this on 10 like I'm trying to do... just wait for now.

Splashtop would only work via cloning the primary desktop... I couldn't add another monitor.  So I tried another app called "space desk"  It screwed my video up so bad I had to physically pull the video card, uninstall the app and then put the card back in.

I think my tablet is hosed as well.

So yeah I'm not going to bother right now.

Why on earth did you upgrade to 10?

Both Windows 8.1 and 7 have EOL in 2020.

I would downgrade if I was you.  ::)
