Manually update GroovyMAME on GroovyArcade Install
« on: October 18, 2015, 11:09:21 am »
Hi all,

Have had a good look around, but can't find a guide on how to manually update GroovyMAME in GroovyArcade. The latest version within the system update menu is version 0.160, but I would like to update to 0.165. Any guides / tutorials around on how to do this?

Cheers

Rob

Hi All,

I managed to work this out. It is as easy as replacing the groovymame file in folder usr/local/games/bin. I would suggest renaming existing file to groovymame.old so it can be restored.

The key issue is to extract the downloaded .tar.bz2 archive in Linux. I was using 7zip in windows and the emulator would not load.

Transfer the .tar.bz2 file to usr/local/games/bin folder then type: tar xvjf filename.tar.bz2

The last step is to delete the mame.xml file in home/.advance. When starting the frontend a new mame.xml file will be generated for the version of GroovyMame you are running.

This can all be done over the network from a windows PC using WINSCP with Putty installed to execute the .tar.bz2 extraction commands.

Cheers

Thank you robbo43 for sharing the upgrade process.

Deleting the mame.xml file is not a mandatory step, the front-end (advandemenuplus) will regenerate it at first launch.
