Cocktail table that won't play certain roms
« on: October 04, 2015, 09:00:20 pm »
Bought a cocktail table project.  It had mala.  Won't play certain roms.  i tried putting an older version of MAME on their with the versions of ROMs that run on my other winmame cab.  But they fail to load.  Not sure why.

So I'm looking to just reformat and start from scratch.  A few questions:

1. What's the best PC frontend for cocktail tables?
- Easiest install that won't be horrible lacking?
- Best install that's worth the trouble?

2. Any groovy cocktail table ideas or musts?
- It's currently got two 8-way sticks (I hate non-switchable 8-ways vs 8/4 ways but it is what it is) with two buttons per side.  I'm prob not gonna add any buttons.  Does have 1-player, 2-player and credit buttons, too.  Just writing this so you know what I have.

More important question is #1.

Thanks,
Bucks

I just love these posts.  We have a wiki, and a pretty good search system on this site.

What ever happened to old fashion research?

Software questions in the software message boards ect.

It is not really that hard is it?  If it is not, please explain it to me.   :dunno

A raspberry pi (1st gen) won't play any of the Mortal Kombat games. So mark that off the list since they are the best to play!  8)

Yeah, because nothing's more fun than playing Mortal Kombat on a cocktail.

I'm actually in agreement with you on this, Ark. There seems to be a lot of requested hand-holding recently. The joy is the learning process, not being told what to do. There's plenty of stuff here to follow, if one just takes the time to look.

Sorry to drag you out of obscurity Jeff.  I ask this question due to the lack of ability to search for valuable information that is available on this site.  I'm not bashing the OP but if the guy went to the site and found some information that was more particular, I'm sure that would provoke some interest.

I already know that it is a requirement to inform and explain things to 90% of Americans, especially in movies and popular fiction, but I thought you had more oil in your can, so to speak Jeff.  I look forward to seeing more retorting from you or some may call witty banter from you in the next year or so, when your bell gets rang, from a comment of mine.  Keep the RSS feed on.

Here is a quick pic, very easy, fast and I never have to explain how it works to anyone.

What ever happened to not being a dick?

I built a MAME years ago.  Control panel.  Wired everything using CAT5.  Designed a marquee.  Bought every part.  Did it all.  I've gotten busier over the years.  Heck, I'm only now getting a chance to get back to my OP.  What wonderful responses.

It would've been relatively simple to answer.  I wasn't looking for every answer in the book.  Just some simple suggestions and the communities opinions on cocktail front ends and cool ideas for cocktail tables.  And I made mention of a specific problem I was having for some unknown reason.

If you're the community leader and the overwhelming opinion matches yours, well, I guess 90% of Americans are stupid POS but, whatever nationality you -- ark -- are, you're in the upper % of being a dick.

Don't bother.  I'll figure it out myself.
