How to boot win 7 into 15khz?
« on: October 03, 2015, 06:59:29 pm »
Hi all, ive followed the great guide by recap and now am at the point where i think i have groovymame configured and the crt emudrivers working.

However now i need to put it into my arcade machine, and i dont have the fality to use the lcd, disconnect, connect to jpac. Is there anyway i can boot stright in at 15khz?

I have a 4350.

Thanks

Once you get your CRT hooked up and have your Windows desktop resolution set, it will always boot up into it by default, just like it would any other resolution.  My CPU is inside my closed cabinet, and I have it powered by the main arcade power switch.  In the BIOS, I have the computer set to power on when AC is restored, so every time I turn on the cabinet, the PC boots up into Windows, at 640x480 interaced.  You should not have to touch or swap your monitors once you've set up your CRT/drivers.

I have a feeling you may be confused by the installation instructions where it says:

3.- CRT Emudriver for W7 doesn't boot in 15 kHz automatically after restart. You need to manually enable a 15 kHz mode from Arcade OSD.

6. After rebooting, the system should be ready to switch to a 15-kHz mode by way of the Arcade OSD application -- it's the moment to care about having connected the 15-kHz-capable CRT display and then setting a suitable desktop mode.

After restart, you will need to manually select one of the 15 kHz modes from Arcade OSD.

But don't worry--that's only talking about the first time.  This stuff can be confusing.  Stick with it.

This stumped me for a while too, how could I boot up and set a 15KHz resolution blind (PC connected to the cabinet, cabinet monitor switched OFF)?

I put ArcadeOSD in the Windows startup folder. Once you're sure Windows is booted up and it's running, you can just hit enter on the keyboard a few times to set a 15KHz mode and then power on the cabinet.
