Are you opening MAME directly or through a front end?

Sounds like a path issue.  MAME does copy/paste with no problems.

Black screen, no content at all.  its like mame is blank.  screen goes totally black till i hit the esc key.  i tried changing the path of the launch path but it does no good so i put it back the way it was.

Oh, then it's working.  I'd bet that the previous computer had discreet video and the new one doesn't.  Try this.

mame [rom] -video gdi
 or
mame [rom] -video draw

Lemme know what that does.

Do it at the command line.  open up your MAME folder and then hold down the 'Shift' key and right click a blank area in the folder listing.  Choose 'Open Command Window Here'.  Once you do that you will get a small black window with text - that is the command line.  You will replace the [rom] tag with the actual rom name.  dkong or whatever.

which tag did you use the ddraw or the gdi?  ddraw is much better than gdi, try em both and and see which looks better.  Do you use a front end of any kind?

i used gdi and i did notice it looks a little different kinda pixelated if you will.  i will try the other. and as of right now im doing this without the frontend.  but i plan on using maximus arcade.

I've not used Maximus so I can't tell you exactly what to do, but every front end has a place where you tell it the command line to use.  Your instructions will tell you to type "mame" in that spot.  Instead you would just type "mame -video ddraw" in the same spot.  mame doesn't care which comes first, rom or flags, it still works.

gotcha, ill tinker with it and find it.  ive seen where you can add command lines and such.  one other question, Ive noticed that moonwalker doesnt run like it did on my laptop its a little slow.  this pc im using is a dual core 2.4 ghz with 3gig of ram so i would think it shouldnt run like that any ideas on that?

If you are using the gdi it's gonna be hella slow.  GDI is using Windows system calls to draw everything.  Using the ddraw flag will be way better but, in my experience, kinda fuzzy.

To see your speed, when the game is running hit F11 - you will get a display in the upper right corner showing you your FPS and the target speed in percents.

Honestly the best thing you can do is spend $30 and get almost ANY cheap dedicated video card for the desktop. That will solve your entire problem.

No clue about audio and I've been out of the loop WAY to long to recommend any cards, sorry.  I'd go through your task manager though and see if anything else is running that might be hogging resources - what you've got should be plenty powerful enough.

The audio can glitch if the video render is delayed.  The video card will depend on what type of card slot you have available in your PC.

Got the video card in today.  installed it and it definately fixed the glitching on moonwalker   only problem is it doesnt quite fit right.  the heat sink is so big that its actually sitting on a couple of electrolytic capacitors.  it almost goes in but not quite,  the giant heatsink also inhibits me from putting the harddrive back in place.

im thinking about taking my dremel and cutting out a clearing for those caps, cause i know that cant be good for the heatsink to be sitting on it.  any suggests or advice definately appreciated.

ive included pics to show my dilemma.

in the second pic that little blue tab is supposed to snap in place but is thus prevented because of the caps

Looks like it should be a pretty easy fix with the dremel - figure there will still be plenty of heatsink left afterwards so shouldn't create any problems.
