Model 2 and 2 Aimtracks---ALMOST GOT IT BUT......
« on: September 07, 2015, 09:26:45 pm »
Hey guys,

After having read through tonnes of board info re: Model 2 and Aimtracks I finally decided to give it a try. I got 1 gun to work flawlessly but as we all know 2 will not work.

Then I tried Trouble Shooter 2 software which seemed to install great in that I can fire both guns and I can see both crosshairs on the screen BUT........both crosshairs are stuck in the top left corner of the screen! I can't move them!!

I tried F2 to calibrate them in game but no luck. SO frustrating because I am so close!

While Model 2 is running try alt-tabbing (or just run it in a window.) If you click the troubleshooter 2 tray icon while it's running there should be an option to pop up a window showing the device id's you set and the coordinates (doing this blind but I know it's in there...)

If the x and y coordinates don't change in that window by waving the guns, your raw mouse id's in troubleshooter are wrong. Focus on one gun and gradually bump up the id number in troubleshooter until it starts tracking coordinates in the troubleshooter tray. Model 2 should be tracking along with the crosshair as well at this point. Repeat and find the id for the other gun. Don't bother calibrating until you can move both crosshairs at least.

Note: the raw id's can absolutely get screwed up unplugging/replugging or plugging guns into different usb ports. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the advice! Before I tackle Model 2 again I am trying to stop MAME from reprogramming my 2 Aimtracks back and forth from player 1 and 2. I leave them plugged in and never unplug them but at restart they swap sometimes, not all the time.

They were initially plugged in beside each other at the back of the computer but now I have unplugged one of the guns and plugged it into a different separate usb port, someone suggested that. Hopefully that will work otherwise I guess I will have to get some software that someone else suggested in the forums (Dr. Venture's Controller Remap software) Fun Fun! Sarcasm ;)

Have you ever heard of this happening?

It's a common problem and if I ever get back to this project I think I have a fix.  Some sometime in the next 4 or 5 years..... ;)

I figured out that I was using the wrong version of Model 2. I downloaded and installed the correct model 2 version (1.0) but I ran into error 76 during install. Weird.

Even with the error during installation I fired up Vcop and I could see 2 crosshairs (P1and P2), that moved around the screen but only player 1 could shoot! The other games didn't work unfortunately. However getting back to the installation issues, Howard was nice enough to advise me that Error 76 is a path not found error. So I'm gonna try to work through that now. SOO CLOSE I can feel it hahaha

On a side note regarding MAME switching up P1 and P2 guns....I never unplug my guns or any other usb device...... but could my wireless mouse/keyboard be causing usb reassignment issues? Maybe every time I turn on my keyboard/mouse windows assigns it a new USB and reassigns my guns? I turn on and off my usb mouse/keyboard sometimes.

Thanks for the help both you and Howard!

Howard you are a genius! Your program is awesome. I got it all working now....all I had to do was create a cfg folder and put it in the Model 2 Dir. and voila 2 player gun games!!! Thanks to Burn as well.

I'm super happy and I'm just wondering, is Model 2 affected by the windows switching of P1 and P2 light guns as well? I assume it is just like MAME.

Hi all, i hope anyone of you can help me (:

i posted this on a other discussion too, so sorry for the double post (:

I followed all the tips and tricks to get my 2 Aimtrak Guns work with my Model2 emulator.
I use Troubleshooter2 but i dont get this to work : /
First i got the 2 Crosshairs but if i moved my Guns ingame the Crosshairs just moved quickly from one to another corner.
Then i used the 1.2 Version of TS2 with the new exe Data from Howard_Casto then i got a lot of Run-time errors.
I added the .ddl thingy etc.
Now i always get an Run-time error '-2147024770 (8007007e)':
                                Automation error.
And with this error, i only see one crosshair in the left upper corner : ////

pleaaaaaaaaaaaase can anybody help me get this to work. I tried it on 4 PC´s and now im kinda frustrated : /
I would be so happy to play Hotd and Virtua Cop with my brother to get back some childhood memories.

thx and sorry for my english xD

greetings from germany ^

If you'll just google the error, you'll find that it means a component isn't properly registered or installed.  So make sure directX is installed and any dependencies are properly registered.  Long story short you probably didn't register the "dll thingy" properly.  Remember to use regsvr32.  ;)

Sorry but I'm not working on this project at the moment, nor have I in quite some time.  So that's probably as much help as I can be.

Just set mine up for model 2 without a hitch (on my workstation PC. I need to clean off the Windows 10 installer and "your free upgrade is waiting" advertisements off my arcade rig before going any further.) Even on a different computer, my guns still configured properly as P1 and P2 in the Model 2 emulator, without me having to change anything. I also unplugged the guns, rebooted, and plugged the guns in completely different USB ports (in reverse order too, as in plugged P2 gun in first.) Still recognized perfectly.

The only thing is, after adding a coin and pushing start on the keyboard (either starting or continuing), the gun would stop working for a bit. The cursors would stay in place, or jump position every second or so. The trigger didn't have any effect either. This happened in gameplay in both House of the Dead and Virtua Cop 2, but not in the test mode (no matter how much I mashed on the keyboard during the gun alignment test.) This may be just an issue with my workstation, and the little stuff running in the background all the time. I'll post if I have that problem on the cabinet PC.

Also, I've seen where folks have had a hard time finding version 1.0 of the Model 2 emulator. So here you go.
This is cleaned up install version, without any TS2 stuff installed yet. Get things set up normally first, like Rom paths, VSync, and such. Then install the TS2 goodness.

hmm interesting. I'm going to try 1 more thing before installing controller map software. Someone suggested assigning the guns as device 4 or 5 or higher on the aim track utility. That way it won't keep being reassigned amongst the other 2 or 3 other usb devices during sign on.

Well that was a fail. Guess it's time to learn the mapping stuff plus it's integration into hyperspin. :(

Both of my guns are working fine, both crosshairs work and so on (:
The only thing is, when i trigger on the  #1 gun it works fine but when i trigger on the second gun it triggers for both players : /
Its the last thing i need to be fixed then all works perfekt (:
Anyone knows how to fix this.
